Halifax their criteria for bank account

I'm thinking I may change my bank account, been with Yorkshire Bank over 4 year's with a Readycash Account. It comes with a Maestro card, but it isn't exactly a local branch.
So thought of Halifax, plenty of branches, one close.
Was wondering if they are strick with their criteria? I'm not on loads of money, no bad public data, and I've had 1 credit search in 7 months.
Any thoughts really?

Less than 12 hours ago you had an 'issue' with Experian and some Barclaycard data...no bad public data

Unless that's not what you mean by "public data"?
Are you looking for another basic account, or perhaps the Reward account? The former is obviously easier to obtain.0 -

Bit of a sharp reply Mr Yorkshire, no, the bankruptcy has all gone, and on checking Experian their incorrect data has thankfully gone regarding Barclaycard. Just a question about Halifax and their criteria, I'd now prefer a Big Girl's account;) No need for your sarky tone!0 -
If you have a clean credit rating, with no adverse data recorded on there, then you probably have a decent chance of getting an account.
Bear in mind that if you apply in branch some people have reported being able to get an extra £50 for it - on top of the fiver a month.0 -
Right thanks for that, in a way I'd rather pop into a branch than doing an internet application.0

Can a branch open an Easycash account or is it true it must be done remotely either by paper form being sent or applying on line.0

Branch advisors cannot key an application; it must be done either by a paper form or online. The paper form & ID can be handed in at a branch though.I'd like to apply for a full current account, don't want overdraft though, thought of Santander but so many negs about the bank itself.
Why not apply online to Halifax and see what they say? They'll generally give you an instant decision.0 -

you will still need a credit check done regardless, just to let you know
and if you ever want an overdraft in the future then i suggest you put a small one on now, as if you dont request it when you open the account its harder to get one later.100% G33K

So if you apply in the week you could get an immediate decision?
Thanks again.0 -

Nope, the only time you will get an 'instant' decision is if you already have a current account, and even then it doesn't always happen.
If your a new customer (and sometimes old) you WILL need to show ID at a branch and sign a t&c agreement before its open.100% G33K
