Orange PAC charge

Recently left Orange to T-Mobile after 12 month contract expired. I just received final bill and could not undertstand or agree with final credit figure. I e.mailed Orange and received text stating that PAC code cost was £53.33. This was debited from final balance credit. I was never told about this charge or have never been charged for moving providers before. Is this legal?

Condition 18 of Ofcom's General Conditions of Entitlement requires :

"All providers to provide number portability as soon as practicable and on reasonable terms but only to subscribers of publicly available telephone services who request it. The condition also requires that a porting facility must be provided as soon as practicable and on reaonsable terms to other providers who request it and various restrictions on porting charges."

Draw your own conclusions as to the meaning of reasonable terms, but £53.33 sounds very steep and should not have been imposed without warning.
  • Hello!

My 12 month contract with Orange just came to an end, and I also requested a PAC code, which cost £2.55 which they took out of my final direct debit payment and its stated on my bill. It shouldn't have cost £53 I dont think.

What tariff where you on with Orange?
  • THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY.

    I was on the Business + 1000.

I had rung Orange customer service before transfering, to confirm that my contract had expired.

I have taken this matter up my new provider 31E and they are also taking the matter up with Orange. I will keep you informed.

Even though you are transfering your number you still have to give 30 days notice. you will have been billed on a pro rata system from when you left. They still charge you for the remaining days of the 30 days notice.
:p It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt
  • I've finally had a reply from 31E my new provider!!! They have spoken to Orange in regards to the PAC charge of £53.33. Orange have advised them that the charge was placed onto my account when the PAC is issued, this is effectively the 30 days notice. Orange have advised me that this credit is for the period when I ported away from the Network to the billing date.

Neither 31E nor Orange informed me of the 30 days disconnection period from the Network when I advised that I would be leaving. 31E did all the dealing on my behalf with Orange as part of their service.

31E say they tried to have the remainder of the charge credited back to me, but Orange have advised as this charge is a standard procedure for any Network, they wouldn't be able to credit my account.

I think this is unfaiir and that it should be a warning to all consumers who are considering switching providers.
