I plan to post some flyers for computer repairs around my area. Most peoples problems are software based and i feel i have the know and knowledge to fix problems and update computers. Any ideas on what should be included in the flyer and prices?
Thanks

I think it is hard graft making any sort of a living off that sort of thing, but good luck.
I would suggest:
No fix, no fee.
Have a discount for them coming to you. The time you save travelling wil probably be worth it. E.g £20 an hour to visit them, £13 an hour if they come to you.
"Most problems fixed in under 30 mins"
"Friendly service"
Etc etc....0 -
dont forget to insure yourself in case you break a pc0

If you have any formal qualifications which are relevant, these should be mentioned.
Emphasise that you operate a personal, one-to-one service.
If you can get written testimonials and feedback from satisfied clients, use these in later flyers
Why would people use you in preference to any others doing the same in your area? ARE there any others doing the same? If you're the only one, make a selling point of that.....
As regards rates.... look at what businesses around you are charging;
What's the hourly rate for car workshop services around you?
What do the hairdressers charge?
What's the going rate around you for physio, massage, other therapies like acupuncture, etc?
Armed with these figures, what's a reasonable charge for PC work?
Lastly, DO NOT make promises you can't keep. These will be guaranteed to come back and bite you on the bum.0 -
You also need to consider taxation issues, and possibly declare yourself as self-employed to HMRC.0

it's not worth the time....did this for a while and once you fix one problem they blame you for ANYTHING that goes wrong afterwards (despite it being their stupidity that caused the problem in the first place and they have done again despite your warnings ...ie don't clcik on any downloads unless you know what they are)Ex forum ambassador

...or lose their data.dont forget to insure yourself in case you break a pc
You may find you're not making decent money until you're fixing multiple computers at the same time...
..because you'll find each & every computer will have a different problem....
.. and I'm not sure you can just fix software problems. A fair proportion are a combination of hardware and software...
..do you charge someone if you spend 3 hours working on it only to find it's a dodgy motherboard?
Oh, and about 60/70% of private repairs will be laptops..0 -
and of course the people who swear blind when you ask them if their version of windows is showing the counterfeit messge and reply no
whats the first thing you see when you turn it on
then theres the other side ....the house that smelt of cat poo , mainly because it was ALL over the carpets...and the PCs in the middle of piles of dirty clothes (and I live in a good area !!)Ex forum ambassador

Doing this is tough....I'm doing it as a sideline, and you can go weeks without getting any calls at all no matter how well you drop flyers!! Be prepared for that. Be honest, and if it's something that's beyond your knowledge/capabilities/not economic to repair, tell the client. Bear in mind that with the cost of new hardware being as low as it is, you're not going to get away with charging 10 hrs at £15 per hour to diagnose a mobo problem...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
