Hi all
Just getting ready to cook some chicken bought yesterday with a use by date of tomorrow - It stinks! I have double bagged it and put it back in the fridge.
Just before i ripped up the receipt
Do you think the supermarket will accept it when I take it back tomorrow?
Was looking forward to chicken too

Depends on the supermarket. Some will accept it just for the goodwill, others won't.
Have you kept the wrapping with the use-by date on? If you've got that I think they'll cough up.

Thanks Yes I still have the packaging but its double bagged. I dare them to open it!
I have the pieces of receipt lol
I tried to give them a call (my local branch) but no answer and its an 0845 number0 -
If its a big name supermarket, they generally have a satisfaction guarantee where if you're not satisfied with their product, you can complain and receive a replacement/refund/goodwill gesture.
I did it once with asda for a cheese pizza that had hardly any cheese on it and got refunded twice what i paid! You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Does it have the supermarket name and the best before date on the packaging? If so I fail to see how they can argue that it's theirs.0

But they could (if they felt contrary) argue either that the OP hadn't kept in the fridge, or that the OP stole it.
I very much doubt that they'd do either though. My OH used to work in Sainsburys and his manager once exchanged an off chicken that had Asda branding all over the packaging; he said it was worth it for the goodwill!0 -
I would lay bets the chicken was from Asda. We bought a whole chicken, chicken breasts and chicken fillets from them a few weeks ago. The use by date on them was the day after purchase. We froze them all within an hour of purchase and when defrosted all 3 things were off and smelt disgusting. One thing I can understand, but 3 items :j30/7/10:j

Oh, they will accept it.
They have at Sainsburys when I've done it, possibly because they know that people don't tend to keep rancid meat in their fridge after paying good money for it and then carry it back all the way to the shop.
Sometimes things are left out and unthinkingly put back in with the other stuff.
Not nice, but it happens sometime (which is why I always take meat from the back of the shelf)I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

If they get stroppy, simply threaten to take it to Trading Standards. Rotten chicken? An open and shut case I would have thought."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0
