I've bought one, thanks OP, but anyone considering it should just be aware it's a really basic model and doesn't have a timer. Also, the instructions say it takes about 6-7 hours to cook a meal - my old one took a max of 4hrs. Good value for money though.

It's only 90w which is the equivalent of an old fashioned lightbulb.
I think the instructions are an over estimate though, I do stews with it in about 5 hrs but I only ever use the "hot" setting.
  • A good tip for reducing slow cooker cooking times, is to use HOT water instead of cold ;)
  • great find, thanks :)

  • Wow, thanks! This would be perfect for me as I don't have the space to store a normal slow cooker and usually only cook for 2 people (including me) anyway. Have reserved to pick up in store.
  • thanks for this. just reserved one . it ll be great for camping (when we got electric hook up of course) ! lol

Have just seen this and immediately reserved one to pick up tomorrow. There's only me to cook for now, and as I'm a veggie who eats quite a few meals based on beans and pulses I know it will be very useful.

Beans work OK in a slow cooker, as long as you do the usual soaking followed by rapid boiling, as detailed on their packaging. I know this as I had one before, acquired through Freecycle, but that one was too big, so passed it on.

I have been doing my beans in a vacuum flask in the meanwhile. This also works well, and uses even less leccy, but is just a bit more fiddly.

I have got a bigger one for the family, so don't need a small one for 1-2, but for anyone doing a first time try out of a slow cooker, they are good, and quite money-saving as you can do cheap meat that would be fatty/chewy and not so great using conventional means and it comes out well using this method. If you are short on time, the longer cooking time is an advantage to some too - it only takes a minute to chop and onion, add cheap meat and a sauce, and your food is ready when you come back in from work/college etc. I know my post is more praising slow cookers than this particular cooker, but for the price of a couple of pints this has to be well worth a try, and would be good for students etc. Well done OP, sal x

A couple of pints? Where do you live? I want to come! :rotfl: Most places I know they're £4 each (which is why I don't go to the pub very often!)

On a different note, I picked mine up today and it looks pretty good; I bought it knowing that it was small but I would give a warning to anyone not knowing this as it really is only suitable for 2 meals, maybe 3 at a stretch. Perfect for me though :D
  • Just read all the reviews, on the Argos site, about this slow cooker and have just reserved one for my Mum. Think it'll be handy for her. I have ordered a larger one for us. I have never used a slow cooker before but after reading all the reviews I would like to try one!
Thanks for letting us know about this great offer.:T
