I've got one of these (when it was £9.99)
It works Ok but the printing on the indicator dial soon came off. This seems a common problem with this model.

I've bought one, thanks OP, but anyone considering it should just be aware it's a really basic model and doesn't have a timer. Also, the instructions say it takes about 6-7 hours to cook a meal - my old one took a max of 4hrs. Good value for money though.

6-7 hours?? You have to start cooking the next meal before you have finished eating the first one

Just bought one for my Mum ( who's 89) - much safer for warming up food/ cooking than her using the stove - even if it does take several hours. Also bought a 3.5 litre one for myself - v. good value!

I'm not sure for this particular make but my 3L Morphy Richards when left on for 10-12 hrs uses upto 2kw for the duration and I think because it's a very old one it possibly didn't even use that amount in its younger days but I've only just started monitoring individual items and noticed a slight increase of 2kw when I'm using the S/C

As this is rated at 90w it will use about 630w on a typical cooking cycle. This unit DOES work well - I've used the same myself and there is no problem with it being a lower wattage. Being a smaller capacity, it requires rather less 'juice' than the typical family model. Cooking costs would therefore be about 6 pence given that one unit (1000w) is around 9p. I don't think I've ever seen a slow cooker with a timer - which is generally of no use as the food is cooked so slowly and any steam is condensed and returned to the pot. As such, it won't boil dry. However, I wouldn't want to leave this for more than 8 hours.
So, if you're a one-person family then this is a good choice. £5 is a great deal, but bigger ones rarely cost very much more - usually £10- £20.

PS My 'other' slow cooker (a Morphy Richards) is rated at 180w so should only use just over a unit on a full cycle.

I get round the timer issue by plugging it into a seperate timer thing (not sure of the name but most people use them for lights on/off!) If I have a long day at work then I don't want the food going on until 11am so I use it for this. I've also started to do brisket for Sunday lunches so I go to bed and the timer comes on at 5am - the meat is done by 1pm.
