Different things work for different people. I've tried numerous topical solutions from the docs (inc zineryt) and none worked. I've tried all the over the counter stuff
Personally I was on Tetracyclin antibiotics and I had perfect flawless skin while on those.
Now I'm pregnant I'm having to use just Benzoyl Peroxide (5%) - available over the pharmacy counter. I use it in conjunction with Liz Earle cleanse and polish and moisturiser which helps keep the dryness that the benzoyl causes at bay. If I stick to this regime religiously (twice a day) I have good skin. But if I slack they come back. And I've been slacking
Really you just have to keep trying different things, but you need to give each one a good go - say minimum of 3 months before giving up. Even the best solution will take a few months to see good results.Baby Giz born 6/2/110 -
I'm 26 and I've had really bad skin from the age of about 12/13 to around 4 months ago. I went to see Dr Chu at Hammersmith and he gave me N-Lite and a prescription for Isotrexin Gel. I now get on average about 1 spot a week (huge reduction considering I used to have at least 5/6 new ones appearing on a daily basis) and I'm not sure which treatment it was, but I'd be inclined to say it was the Isotrexin. I'd strongly recommend asking your GP for a script for it as it made such a difference to me. It's pretty hardcore stuff - the main ingredient being retinol - but if you can keep yourself out of the sun for a while then I believe it will make a difference. I stopped using it about 6 weeks ago and I'm still almost completely clear. I've even had a two week period where I had no spots which was just incredible. Also, if you're looking for a great cover-up make-up to see you through I'd suggest investing in Estee Lauder Maximum Cover. I have terrible scarring and PIH from the spots but you'd never know it when I'm wearing this foundation! It also doesn't break me out at all which is a major plus.
Would you mind telling me how much you paid for this treatment? I presume you went privately and its something I'm considering.0 -
You won't be able to visit Dr Chu without a GP referral letter and the waiting list is usually quite long (3-4months) but it's definitely worth it. If you're looking to just get N-Lite then that's available widely, but if you really want to get your skin under control then nothing beats visiting a good dermatologist. It was so helpful having my acne diagnosed so I know how to predict what will set it off etc. To consult with Tony Chu it's around £250-£300 I think, but that includes your first session of N-Lite which, if appropriate, you'll have whilst you're there. I believe Tony is the cheapest available as he's not out to make loads of money from treating acne. Consequently he offers a small range of various treatments that really work. I'm assuming he'll do the same for you as he does for most which is not insist that you consult with him everytime you visit, therefore saving you the consult fee. Therefore I believe the N-Lite along (after your first treatment)will be around £100. I had an appointment for my second dose but I cancelled as I don't yet need it, but I will go again within the next few months just in case it's what sorted my skin out! Since there's a long wait, I'd suggest asking for a script for Isoxtrexin when you visit your GP asking for a referral letter, then try it out for a little while before your appointment (you should see results in the first couple of weeks - but be warned that a lot of people reported a major breakout at the six week point, before their skin cleared completely...so don't lose faith at that point!!) as if the Isotrexin works then you won't need to spend all that money seeing Dr Chu
Either way, let me know how you get on. Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.0 -
Im on Zineryt and its a God send!! I got prescribed it as a teenager and again now cause the bloody spots have returned. But it does work
docs put me on a repeat prescription cause its the only thing that works, over the counter stuff like Oxy/Freederm are useless if you have real acne. 0 -
I have used Zineryt for the big 'boil' type spots and it did work for me. Mind you, I think my problems are hormonal based but holding off on getting it checked out as I have to ditch the pill for 3 months. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

I never found Zineryt worked for me. Dr Chu said my problem was totally hormanal and the result of an overactive adrenal gland. So therefore the approach of using lots of harsh chemicals to remove surface issues wasn't going to do anything for me as it was coming from within. Since my 'diagnosis' I've been using much more gentle stuff on my face; mainly Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish and the Skin Tonic, plus I use a couple of Glycolic Acid products a few times a week to deal with the remaining PIH and scars. All in all it's going very well. The healing process is taking time but I've got a good skincare routine and an excellent make-up routine, so I'm not looking in the mirror and just seeing a load of spots/scars anymore which is a major relief!Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.0

I had really bad acne around my jaw, and chin a few years ago - really angry sore red pustles and I looked and felt awful. It really knocked my confidence. i tried a multitude of different over the counter cream, gels and lotions to no avail. I eventually went to a day spa, and they recommended Dermalogica products, and a course of Caci Futur-Tec treatments. It wasnt cheap but I had a CC back then! However the difference was amazing. After the first FT treatment I noticed a change, and after 8 sessions mty skin was clear. I went back for maintainence sessions every few months and it really kept my skin looking great. I cant afford either them or the Dermalogica stuff any more, but I use Calmia Clay cleanser which is similar to the Dermalogica Dermal Clay Cleasner, and I have Zineryt for the times that i get a wee outbreak. Having struggled with this for years I had some allergy testing done. It showed I was allergic to dairy, artifical sweetener and coffee. I've now cut these out any my skin is clear. 6 months ago I was covered in angry, red, painful spots and was embarrassed by my skin. Before spending a fortune on costly procedures and products, please try £50 on allergy testing.
I've reintroduced all 3 allergens at various times to double check, and sure enough the spots come back.
Good luck!0 -

Hi just wondered if anyone has tried any chinese herbal madicines for acne?
I have a friend who did, she doesn't have major inflamed acne, more lots of little lumps and bumps, but she was advised to take a load of these Chinese herbal pills along with applying an ointment and I believe drinking some kind of tea. Anyway, she seemed to be constantly taking something (at one point she was taking 12 of them a day - as advised) and it had absolutely no impact whatsoever. So it didn't work for her but maybe it's worked for others
