Mangetout, easier than peas and you need less pods for a meal ;)
Always look a bit sickly starting off, but once they start podding, they will give you at least 12 pickable pods a day from about 24 plants. Mine are still only about 2ft off the ground, so still have some height to get to yet - they've gone bonkers :).

Early June is the last sow by date according to the back of the packet, so you might just be able to sneak some in.

Best supported with twiggy hazel branches, and twine around horizontally for them to get a grip to climb up.

Definitely not too late to grow lettuce! I sow two 5 ft rows of lettuce (usually dividing them equally between a cos, butterhead and crisphead) and one each of spring onions, radish and rocket from March until I forget in about September.

I'm currently picking about a carrier bag full twice a week. We like salad. :D

In terms of veg to grow now - it's too late to put in onions or potatoes for this year. However, you'll be fine with French or runner beans, buy plants of courgette. Sow salad leaves.

Loads of ideas on Sarah Raven's website.

There are some mixed cut and come again salad leaves that can be eaten with three weeks of sowing, so no not at all. If you sow batches of them every two weeks there will be a constant supply. They are fine grown in a seed tray with compost.

Far cheaper and taste so much better. :)

It is suggested to get potatoes for Christmas to plant them in August, so I would imagine it would be fine to grow some now. Someone was saying on here that Homebase has them at half price so you should be able to get them still too.

Also add radish to that if you like it, it grows in no time and you just throw some seeds on a bare patch of soil, water and a month later eat.

It doesn't need a lot of soil, so yes.

Potatoes are easy enough. In the ground, in a tub, your seed is in the bag your bought from the supermarket :)
