Contracts and Credit Check!

Hi guys!
Basically I am in the process of having a orange mobile phone contract transfered into my name.. ( I was the 3rd party)
Now I'm actually thinking of cancelling this contract, and just going out and getting a new contract next Thursday when the iPhone comes out..
What I'm thinking is.. Because I had a credit check against my name to do with transfering the contract to me, will this effect my chances of taking out a new contract..
The guy on the phone didn't seem to think so..
But, I've turned 18 about 3 months ago.. I have had a part time job for just over a year, and also I just applied for a credit card about three weeks ago ( and recieved it in the post) but I've never even used it, and don't plan on doing so ( it was just so I can book into a hotel in NY)
The contract that i'm having transfered to my name, is still in my mothers name for now unti the 3rd of july ( billing date where it swaps over)

Can anyone help me out ?
Thanks
Jack

**Edit: Forgot to say, that I will be taking the contract out on the same network, orange**

Because you didn't fail the credit check it won't affect your credit rating. Your credit file contains an amount of credit that you can have based on your income, however, and if by taking out a new phone contract the system calculates you will exceed this limit then you will be rejected. This is unlikely to happen, however, sine you only have the credit card and you've never used it.

Good luck in trying to get an iPhone next Thursday. The current delivery date for pre-orders with Apple is July 14th. If you are willing to queue all night on Wednesday then you might be lucky enough to get one at a shop. If not, I wouldn't hold out too much expectation of getting one on the day.

They may agree to you taking one but they might ask for a deposit. How long has the contract got left that your mum has? If its a few months it might be worth paying it off and then upgrade from there.

Remember though, an iphone is just a phone so don't go getting yourself in any bother, even the iphone isn't worth that.
Now they may not offer you the iphone if you do pay this one off and then they may not except you on a new contract if they have already checked you so it may pay to wait a month or two before you do apply as even other networks may turn you down.

As for you credit card, use it to build a credit history up but make sure its a good history, pay it off every month in full. Do your mums shopping on it and get the cash from her and pay it off as soon as the bill arrives. There will be lots of people on here that would give their right arm to be in your position with a clean credit rating!

Well actually my mum will be paying it off each month ( she's said it's the one thing she'll continue to pay for while I'm in uni :rotfl: )
If they ask for a deposit, I won't do it, I'd rather wait to be honest! ( Also I need to save some cash for my holiday) ( unless the deposit isn't much)
My current contract ( under my mums name) is in the upgrade period, but I don't have much chance getting an iPhone through orange sales or upgrade, as the contract is messed up with me having it transfered to my name!

And as for getting an iPhone, I've got one reserved!

Jack, jusr bare in mind if your mums going to paying for the contact she need to be with you when you get the new phone/contract IF you want her back acc info using.

They won't take someone else's bank info from you if the other persons not there, as you can imagine, that could be abused.

I assume that the direct debit could be changed? As In I'll give my details to start with?
If not then she will just put a standing order in with the bank to send me the amount each month :)

DD can be changed with regard to the amount but not (I think!) for a different acc to pay to. I was assuming you were getting a new iPhone 4 contract and were going to try to give your mum's bank acc info to them? But if it's going on your acc and she going to transfer the ££ to you each month it's a moot point (but does mean you have to keep to your plan price or cover the short fall your self ? My son has his paid from my bank and then it costs him nothing... Bloody kids ! ;) ).

Just spoke to Orange, and he said that the payment details can changed at any time, and nope I'll be giving them my bank details to start with!

You can setup a direct debit from whichever bank you like aslong as you have permission of the account holder, and the details can be changed at any time.
