I am sorry to read about your loss.
There can be a lot to deal with when someone dies, and you might find it worthwhile getting a copy of the book What to Do When Someone Dies ("Which?" Consumer Guides) which most WHSmith bookshops will have.
Speak to your advisor of studies or student association academic affairs person about getting leave of absence from college, so you don't have to worry about essay deadlines etc. They may also be able to give you a hardship loan or payment to keep you going while you get things like benefits etc sorted out.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

As a college student it depends on the level of the course, its no higher than A level , primarily between 9:30 & 5:30 , 12 hrs or more per week and lasts 3 months or more than you can othwerise your not a student for council tax purposes,
If you meet these requirements then your property will be exempt from council tax as long as you do so. (it will need to re-assesed if your circumstances or household change)I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -

My dad owned the house. And paid all the bills and for food.
Im Currently doing a btec nation diploma at college ( its an A level equivalent) and was due to start university in september but now my loan application is void as my dad was supporting my application. so i now have till next Friday to submit a new application which prooves that me and my mum are estranged.
Ive asked work for extra hours but im at college 9 till 5 4 days a week I work 12 hours over Fridays and Saturdays. with Sunday as my dad to do house work shopping and homework but ive asked my manager for any extra hours on Sundays. If i miss any lessons so close to my final project it will effect my grade.
Ive emailed the CAB but most benefits dont apply to students

Did your dad leave a will? Does he have any other relatives? Are your mother and he divorced?0

Your college MUST have a student welfare officer - I'm sure they will be helpful if you go to them.0

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad.
It must be terrifying just being completely alone at 19 let alone having financial worries too.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.
