Clio - Spark Plug Socket / Removal Tool
Hi, does anyone here know what size spark plug removal tool I need for a Clio (1.2 16V engine). The plugs are deep down so I dont even the size of the spark plugs.
I have been to two car parts shops today and one said it is the smallest size which is 8mm and the other said I need a special tool that is designed especially for clio's and the size is 9mm. They are £14.99, both didnt have them in stock so I am searching online to see where I can purchase one but I don't know what size I need?
Thanks

have you got your new sparks plugs to hand? if so take them along to halfords or the likes and see which socket fits over it....work permit granted!0

Thanks for the replies. I dont have the new spark plugs yet I will order them from one of the car part shops once I am able to remove mine. One shop said it could be either 8mm or 10mm but he 'thinks' its probably the smallest size and the other shop said it is a special tool which is 9mm. So I went back to the first shop and asked if they had the 9mm one and they havent even heard of that size spark plug.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0

Don't wait till you've removed the old ones, buy them now, then you can drop them straight in
I think there's only 4 sizes in common use.

The people you asked were obviously the village idiots. Anyone with any common sense whatsoever would have looked in the parts catalogue for the spark plug the Clio uses and got you an appropriate sized socket.0

i think this is what you need.
it must be tight entry holes at on the cylinder head requiring a thin wall socket.
or this one, its cheaper....work permit granted!0 -
Depends on what year it is.0

The two car parts shops that I went to are well known companies, where garages get their supplies. They both got the catalogues out, took my car reg and I was told by one it is either 8mm or 10mm as that is the only smallest sizes they do. Then the other said 9mm but it is a special tool only for clios. All I'm after is just the end socket as I already have the extension. I will call into Halfords tomorrow and see what size they tell me I need.Depends on what year it is.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0

Thanks, I have both of them in my watch list already
The entry hole measures 19mm.
I called into a garage when I passed and asked if they stocked them, they said no but could order them in for £14.99. He showed me what he uses and the extension was fatter than the one in the link above. I didnt think it would fit but he opened my bonnet although he didnt take the plug out. He said I could borrow it if I get stuck but I need to order the plugs first and would feel cheeky going back. He didnt know the correct size of the tool he had though so no futher forward!A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
