Every creditor / bank / utility provider has the ability to contact a credit reference agency and ask them to ammend the data in whichever way they please.

Whether or not they will or should is another matter. If you were late with your payment, Barclaycard are well within their rights to leave things as they are.

As a matter of fact, for Barclaycard to report a "0" (Green on time marker) when the payment was late, would be against the law (Data Protection Act - data must be accurate).

If you made late payments why would Barclaycard remove the reporting of them to the CRA'S thus alerting other lenders to the way you run your account?

Keep in mind that whilst they have the facility to edit data, they are within their rights, and correct in telling you "We can't ammend the data" if you were in fact late or whatever - as to ammend the data to show otherwise would put Barclaycard in breach of the Data Protection Act for reporting false / inaccurate data.

    Hello,

I have an issue relating to this thread.

I have applied for a mortgage and am at the completion stage. Abbey after accepting the mortgage have withdrawn it as there is a late payment on my Barclaycard account which has effected my credit score.

I have contacted Barclaycard as the payment was not late. It turns out that although i paid via online on my deadline date (4.06.10) they did not take the money from my account until 8.6.10 thus making it deemed a late payment.

Obviously this is a matter of urgency as the mortgage needs to be completed ASAP.

Barclays have sent me a letter which shows that i made payment on the 4th but Barclaycard are saying (Indian call centre) they will refund my charges but will not change my credit score as it states in the T&Cs when i took out the account (in 2006) that you must allow 3 working days for the payment to be taken.

I have spoken to Experian who have said there is nothing they can do without permission from Barclaycard.

I have also written to Barclaycard Northampton and requested they get back to me and raised it as a complaint via Barclays.

What can i do? Is it likely that they will change it? Is there someone i can call in England who will have the authority to make the decision?

    Thanks
  • Does it say in your Terms that you have to make payment 3 Working days BEFORE your due date or does it just say within 3 working days?

    You paid on:
Friday 4th June (Working Day 1)
Monday 7th June (Working Day 2)
Tuesday 8th June (Working Day 3)

If your card statement is not clear then I would Make a Formal Complaint to Barclaycard that their document was not clear enough and threaten further action. I'm sure if you can speak to someone in Head Office UK, then you will have a much better chance of them correcting your credit file. I'm also surprised that Santander haven't been more sympathetic considering you can clearly show the payment.

I do feel sorry for you. In this day and age its a ******* disgrace that ALL electronic payments are not instant. Every single one should be. We live in a 21st Century yet use 19th Century Banking Procedures.
