ive just switched to scottish power and theyve set up my account for the first dd to be 75 pounds-i currently only pay 56

now i put in my actual units for the year (kw) and it said i would be saving money

ive phoned up and the csr said he cant tell me why its been set up at 75 only that they based it on the units i give them-he also couldnt access anywhere which told them what reading i put in (i could have mistyped it for instance)

if ive given them accurate readings for the year why are they setting it at 75 is that just a price they magically come up with?

he said they'll review it one month after ive been supplied by them(which ive never heard before bg only review it on a 3 month basis) and will adjust the price based on that one month

can someone just confirm that this is right and hes not trying to fob me off?

he was very confusing and not clear on some points -he said my readings were low but then couldnt tell me why the monthly dd had been set that high-he also told me to ring next month to check my usage i said it wont even be switched over by then!

if they dont lower it after the first month im screwed as i know i'll never be able to cancel with them and i jsut cant afford that amount

Your monthly DD should be 1/12 of your annual consumption (baring any date they have decided the balance should be zero on the account which might affect the first part-year's figure)

So give them the calculation based on the consumption - i.e your annual cost and 1/12 of that ... and if they think otherwise they should explain that to you.

Raise a formal complaint if they can't explain their calculation (or give an explanation why yours is wrong)
    http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/support-centre/service-and-standards/complaints.aspx

Obviously they may review the amount as time passes if it becomes obvious your initial estimation of annual usage is not in line with your recorded consumption

You said that they said it was based on annual consumption figures you gave them.

You also said you have those figures.

From that you can work out the annual cost (or you can use a comparison site to do it for you).

Hi gabbyevs - You are being fed total garbage by SP's Customer Service Desk - There is no way they can assess your annual consumption from one months meter readings taken in mid-summer.

At the moment, the only person who knows what you use in a year is you ! Do your homework on the last years bills from your previous supplier, apply the total Kwh used to the tariff you are on with SP and divide by 12

WRITE, Don't waste your time with Email or phone, a letter headed Complaint. Throw back at them the nonsense reply you had from thier CSD. Give them your figures and say that your D/D level should be set at the level shown by your own figures, and if they disagree you require they send you their own calculations in writing
    Good Luck
