Doesn't the setting in the online account page control this?

    Hello,

I thought you may be interested in how Vodafone are blocking the streaming of media (audio and video) across the Android platform on their network. However not across the iPhone tariffs or the Windows Mobile users.

This has been up for discussion on the Vodafone eforum under the topic of 'Streaming Apps' however Vodafone have now closed and censored this topic since it has been ongoing for over 9 months now and customers with a 1GB data usage per month began to ask questions, since no other network provider block media streaming on there network.

Vodafone have provided various excuses including, originally that the streaming block was for maintenance 9 months ago followed by stating that ‘streaming was not blocked’ and then, more recently with the excuse that there is now legislation in place to protect minors and they have to do this. Yet, again no other network provider 'has' to block streaming. Additionally, in order to enter into a pay monthly contract; you have to be 18 years of age or over.

The topic can be seen at

Vodafone eForum > Vodafone Services > Mobile Internet / Vodafone Live! > Streaming apps (Seen as new users are not allowed to post links, PM me if you want the direct link)

however please note the last couple of pages have been edited by the mods and a number of valid points deleted and/or edited.

Nope, the content control blocks website addresses, this can be easily lifted by providing credit card details as proof of age, the streaming block is on rtsp streams. Vodafone can add them to their whitelist but each specific stream needs to be individually submitted and pass their approval process, but there are many issues with that. They have admited that the current system doesn't really work. This is a quote from one of the mods:
The good news is that we've already recognised internally that we have a problem. Our security policies are perhaps a little too extreme than is sensible, which is why we're having issues that other networks don't seem to have. The process itself, as well as the overall mentality behind it, is being fought and reviewed as we speak - however, as with all things in an organisation as large as we are, changes will take time, so I can't offer any immediate fixes. With the World Cup prompting so much streaming right now, we are of course treating it with high priority.

At least football finally has some use ;)

Vodafones in-house E-Forum is well known for acting in this manner. Any subject or comment will result in the post being edited or deleted, the thread being deleted and even, as in my case, being barred from the forum for several months.

Only wonderful things about VF can be posted on their forum or simple questions that can be explained in a few lines. Anything controversial results in abusive posts from new members on their very first post ( Maybe VF staff, I ask myself?) which is allowed to continue by the Admin. As this is a forum set up by VF on their own web site they can censor as they like. Only independent forums such as MSE give you a platform to air your grievances to ask and receive help.

VF forum team, do you have any comments?

Just so people know, following numerous tip off's to various media outlets, 'The Register' has kindly picked up on the story of Vodafone blocking media streaming.

This can be viewed at the 'The Register' website under the title of 'Vodafone Blocks World Cup, except for iPhone users' and 'vodafone_rtsp/'

    Thanks,
