We used to have the worst ones in St Helens, they used to chase you down the street and wouldn't take no for an answer. They would also wait outside shops for you and continue to chase you down. I remember one occasion where they cornered my mum and wouldn't leave her alone until she gave them £2 for a crappy leaflet.
We've had some funny ones too though like the Scottish monks who were selling 'Monk rock' CDs. We had a good giggle and that one.
These days I just wear earphones and pretend I can't hear them it usually works0 -
I was walking up to our local Minor Injuries unit to get my dressings changed after a dog bit both my hands, my right hand was entire bandaged up and my left hand had plasters on.
Some charity chugger man jumped out at me and tried to talk, I said "sorry I've got a hospital appointment". He made a doubtful face at me and was all "not got a few minutes??" You're right, I'm pretending... LOOK AT MY HAND DUDE, how stupid are you?!0 -
Interesting that no chuggers have come on here to give their view? With a forum as big as this, there are bound to have been some who have read this thread.
Perhaps it's because either:
1. They are all out busy mugging charity donations
2. They are too ashamed"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I'm socially isolated - so I think chuggers are great , its the only conversation I get
I always give my bank details and cancel the direct debit before the first payment (my bank allows cancellation and recall upto 8pm on the date of the transaction)
Whats the point in saying no to chuggers when you can say yes - it takes the same amount of time and makes the chugger happy when otherwise they would be sad
If you are looking for conversation then my advice would be to fit that in before you sign as they have been known to make a sharp exit as soon as I have signed on the hand held device_party_
Of course I could be lying - so here's a scanned image of the receipt that Action for Children chuggers give after signing up , I also got an NCH Oyster card wallet for signing up to that one:rotfl:
Direct debit cancelled before first payment - happy chugger - free oyster wallet = everyones happy:T
yours sincerely

The "point" is that my time has value to me, and I would rather do spend it doing useful things than talking to a chugger.0 -

If you are experiencing a pest problem eg rats, mice, cockroaches etc
What is the best way to get rid of them ?
Ignore them ?
or Leave some Poisoned bait ?

Your time is more valuable than theirs - so they annoy you
My time is less valuable than theirs - so I annoy them
I think chuggers are great

I just say 'No thank-you" and walk passed, briskly, no eye contact, no futher engagement. I don't see any need to justify to them how much time you may or may not have, or whether you do or do not support charity or anything. It none of their business.0

Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.0
