14 Day Return

I bought a 4GB memory card from a seller who has a 14 day money back guarantee for any reason.
The item arrived very quickly and all looks OK but i have since found out that my stereo will not take more than a 2GB card.
I have emailed the seller twice (once through eBay and once on the email address from Paypal) asking him if I can arrange to swap the item but I have had no response.
Shall I just return the item to him recorded delivery with a letter explaining the situation? My worry is that I will then be out of pocket.
How can I get his contact details from eBay?
I dont know much about Returns Policies - but I did specifically choose this seller becasue of the returns policy incase there was a problem with the card when it arrived. Is there a way I can involve eBay in the return? My worry is that the seller will say that I am past my 14 days in which I had to return the item but on the other hand if i just return the item then he will have both my money and the card.
Your help would really be appreciated.
Thank you

It may be easier just to resell the card. You may lose a little but there's no return postage to pay. I think the seller would be very generous to take this back now, especially if it's been opened. Can I help?0

But the returns policy specifically stated that the seller would refund the cost of postage as well as the cost of the item and that they would guarantee the return for any reason whatsoever. Do sellers not have to stand by their returns policies?0

If I was the seller I wouldn't be too pleased. You really should chck these things out before buying. Why should the seller be out of pocket, for your mistake?
As a seller these sort of returns cost me fortune...but to keep my feedback up I have to accept them...grrrr!!0 -
Hang on a minute, I think you are wrong. The seller offers a returns policy and that is the only reason I bought the item from them. They make a profit from selling the items and if they feel they can agree to stand the cost of the postage then that is up to them - I am not asking for anything that they didnt offer originally as part of the sale. The seller is providing a service in order to achieve sales - and they should stick to the terms of their sale.0

I agree if the seller stipulates a returns policy on their auction then the OP has every right to return it as it isn't suitable.
If in this situation there had been no returns policy then as it was the OP's own fault (I don't mean that is a nasty way!) for not checking her stereo before bidding/buying then she should just auction it herself.
The seller has chosen to have this returns policy and should honour it.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.0 -
My only thought would be that even if a seller has a generous returns policy might it not be that they expect the item to be returned as new?
Yes, it can be returned for any reason within 14 days, but it doesn't say that it can be sent back used or opened. Online shops also have returns policies, and with those it is always assume that if you change your mind an item can be returned for any reason..but they also never specify unused yet I think you would be hard pressed to get them to take back an opened product.

It hasnt been used or opened and will be returned as new. I have got the contact details from eBay (thanks Tank Girl) but havent managed to get an answer yet. I am starting to think that if he isnt replying to my emails I am unlikely to get a response via the telephone. What do you think I should do?0

Just a thought... he could be on holiday? My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Yeah, I know, I am quite prepared to accept he is completely genuine but I dont know what to do, do I just sit and wait and let the 14 days go by?0
