Sim free or not sim free?

More and more people are buying their phones Sim free and taking out Sim Only plans.

Networks are making contracts longer as the phones get better so do you sim free it or contract it?

Looking at buying my next phone and seeing what sim only deals i can get hold of. I would get insurance through my bank so that would be ok.

I'd look at all of the options and get the cheapest one over the whole period. That tends to be contract because buying the phones outright is usually extortionate.

I had been buying sim-free for many years but had the very bad idea last year of getting a new phone with a contract from Vodafone - will not make that mistake again!

I had a look into this but the networks get the phone so heavily discounted and so much cross-subsidy the phone + contract minutes etc worked out approximately the same over the duration of the contract than just trying to buy the phone.

My last couple of phones have been sim free (diamond bought in 2008 and desire this year) i already had a contract and jst but needed a new phone (the contract was taken out 12 months previously and i'm v clumsey!) Sim-free has been good for me as it's given me the freedom over an 18 month or 24 yr period. Think I will continue doing so.
Using my phone to post - apologies in advance for any typos

I've been using sim-only deals for about 2-3 years now, and instead of buying new sim-free phones, I've been buying nearly new off ebay. Think it works out a fair bit cheaper than contract, plus I can move providers if I want to.
Why pay more than you have to?
