Broken Sofa - just outside guarantee

Hey all, wondered if anyone has had a similar experience who might know the right way to go about this productivley..
We bought a Sofa just over a year ago on Hire Purchase. We had to have it repaired 7 months after delivery because the structure had broken (not even on a part that is sat upon).
Having paid off the finance since then, and having owned the sofa for a year and 1 month its broken in exactly the same place.
Do we have a right to demand repair?
And as its the same part that had broken before, is there any kind of clause for some kind of consumers rights guarantee to be mandatory on the repair work that occured 6 months ago?
would really appreciate any help anyone has to offer

Not sure about the repair work but i know when purchasing items that they must be fit for purpose.
You could try claiming it is not fit for purpose however, within 6 months of purchase it is up to the seller to prove the fault didnt exist at time of purchase......outside of the 6 months its up to the consumer to prove it DID.
Have you tried contacting them to see what they say first? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
no, me and mrs been working but will be calling them today.0

Try that first. Sometimes i find you gear up for a struggle only to find they're more than accommodating
Good luck and keep us updated. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Ah the irony of having crushed a sofa with a username like The Fat Controller.0

Try threatening them with Trading Standards, stating the goods were not of staisfactory quality and have proven unfit for purpose, quoting the 6 year rule under the Sale of Goods Act etc0

That would be a really smart move as it would demonstrate that they had no idea what they were talking about!
OP, if you do need to arrange an independent report you should contact FIRA. The retailer may already be part of the Furniture Ombudsman scheme.Gone ... or have I?0 -

wow some good tips, thanks a lot all.
did call them today and you were right they were pretty good. there sending someone out to fix no charge. They also mentioned replacement possibility.0 -
This wouldnt happen to be dfs would it ? sounds like their procedure if they have fixed it and its broken again they should fix it again as they admitted it was faulty the first time id get fira involved and also trading standards.
I think if its out of warranty they try to charge you for a repair but id imagine the warranty is longer than a year ? id try to go for a new sofa and not a repair its obviously a manufacturing fault.
hope this helps0
