Vodafone
Had a random call from "Vodafone" (I'm not one of their customers) offering me a phone.
I immediately asked if they were calling from Vodafone or an agent etc and was advised Vodafone.
He took some details and then told me he was going to do a credit check (After taking address etc). He then asked for my bank details so he could perform the credit search.
I told him I would not give these to a random caller and would have to investigate them more before giving my bank details for a credit search.
I was then told how reputable they are etc and the data is safe, I advised him I don't care. He then put a "Superviser" on the phone who told me how safe it is an amusingly told me that people give their bank details to Comic Relief when they donate and don't get scammed. He could not understand when I explained how different this is.
He gave me a number to ring him back which is 0207 0546073, he assured me this was a "Main" Vodafone number that could put me through. I advised him I would be investigating this number before doing anything more with them.
When I google the number it comes up with quite a few other people who have had similar calls recently and are also concerned.
When I ring the number to see who answers it has a very strange continuous tone.
Does anyone else have any info or advice as I'm interested in their advice and by posting the number it may help other people googling it.
P.S They rang me back (I missed the call) from 08080600702 (The first call was a witheld number)

NEVER give details of any kind to people like this and NEVER accept any deal offered by phone only - especially from VODAFONE or anyone claiming to be them.0

Stay well clear. Only give any details when you are the instigator of a purchase call and when you know 100% who you are calling.
Identity fraud is big business.0 -
Even if it is a genuine call from Vodafone or one of their agents (the latter being more likely), I'd advise staying well clear of them - they are known for offering you a deal and actually setting up something different (i.e they tell you 18 months contract but set up a 24 months one.) If you really want to go with VF, then it's probably best to order from their website, though be advised that their site will allow orders to go through even if the phone you want is out of stock (but won't bother to mention that bit). Also from personal experience, customer service is dire and VF doesn't seem to have a problem making changes to existing contracts then pretending that they haven't done anything...
Edit: had a quick look on the VF eForum, where it has been confirmed by a mod that 08080600702 is the number for Vodafone's outbound sales teamNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0
