Depending on the quality you need there are various disposable film cameras or underwater digitals available, what is you budget?

If you are looking for a good underwater camera and housing, I hired a camera when I was in Taba, from the local dive centre for £25 or so for the day. This meant you could take very good pictures.

The camera I hired was a Panasonic TZ7 with its correspondent case DMW-MCTZ7E. twelve times optical zoom, with all the controls available even with the case on. It will cost about £440 to buy the lot, but hiring is cheaper. Search on Amazon for prices and details.

You can also get 'waterproof' (ie no more than 10m depth) housings for disposable cameras. http://catalog.beaversports.co.uk/products.php?cn=Cameras&cid=5

I think Kodak make disposable cameras which are useable underwater.

You can also get 'pouches' you can put your normal digital camera in to - depending on the camera. http://www.camerasunderwater.co.uk/ewa_marine/d_stills/index.html#dli2

ETA Other brands are made but these are the ones I can find quickest.

    We've got one of these

great on the beach, but needs a bit of light to work well, so I don't know what it'll be like 5m down.

At 5m in the Red Sea there's probably plenty of light, you'll lose some of the red tones but for the most part it should be ok if the camera works in low light on the surface.

AGFA disposable waterproof camera £7 ish in ASDA. Says 10m depth on the box, 27 shots. Works great in swimming pools etc. No flash so needs good lighting conditions. We were in the Centre Parcs pool outdoors and every pic turned out OK but only a plastic lens so don't expect miracles!

£2 ish to have the camera developed at ASDA (no prints, just a CD) in under an hour.

    Great fun.

Depending on the quality you need there are various disposable film cameras ...

I've tried several of these disposables in the Red Sea and can recommend them. A technique I found really successful (when snorkelling) was to fin down and then point the camera upwards before shooting. This gives the maximum amount of light into the lens. Although you'll probably find the viz is pretty good, if you point downwards the pics will be darker.
    Good luck. :)
