    Yep

TN number were cancelled as part of the tightening up on employment of migrant workers.

They used to be TN(date of birth as ddmmyy)gender M or F. Some people had been using them for 10 years.

I saw one that was something like TN935697M once.

OP, if you have no NI number, you will not have accumulated any benefit rights or state pension contributions since you started working her, so you need to sort it out.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

What to do should be on here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/BeginnersGuideToBenefits/DG_10014073

You've either got to apply for one, or come under the heading of lost it.

:eek:Hi I am buying a house below are the details and how far I have got..
I am Polish and have been working in the Uk for the last 2 years (20 months in current job) and have been paying NI and tax through my employer which is a reasonably large company…
In summary then, you’ve had more than one UK employer. All your payslips will show the NI number allocated to you. Therefore, unless every employer you’ve worked for was fiddling the tax situation, you should be able to find it. You can phone HMRC and enquire. They’re very helpful most of the time.

If you’ve been working on the black market then things will be very different. An employer like that could of course be making out that your tax is being paid. Were you paid in cash? You have anonymity here, so it’s up to you if you want to discuss this.

Has any employer mentioned that you need to be self-employed? That is fairly unusual now due to significant changes in the regulations over recent years.

As DvardysShadow said above, strictly speaking it’s not compulsory for what you want to do. I suppose though, that money-laundering regulations might require a good amount of ID information.

Good luck in sorting this out! :)

well my solicitor has just asked for my NI number- hes saying its so my deposit which has been transferred to him can earn interest for the next week (will be pennies he said but still better in mu pocket)
so it may be to do with this
I don’t see how interest will come to you solely in connection with your NI number. In my experience they 1) usually keep interest like this, and 2) he’d need your bank account details to pay it to you. Once again, I’m guessing money-laundering regs here?

If he is paying interest in your deposit then he has to pay tax on that interest on your behalf, and to do that he needs your NI number.
