A part from the high amount of data you'll be going through?

Do it a lot and it'll flag up somewhere, I'm sure

Are you looking for free tethering or you are happy with the £5 carriers normally charge?

There are ways of getting free tethering on O2, but it's of course against their policies.

In terms of can they find out, not if your browsing habit isn't drastically different to normal-ish usage from iphones themselves.

Simply put yes. They can read the headers of packets and work out / see the device where the data is coming from.

Unless you cane it though they are unlikely to investigate though. I've set up tethering on peoples mobiles in the past for work and we've never had an issue, mind you some of the bills were huge when used overseas...

does this apply to wireless tethering (wifi / bluetooth) on other devices like the htc desire too?

just curious. havent found the need to tether yet, but would be a useful feature to have while travelling for the casual email checks and occassional browsing for booking hotels etc rather than using public computers.
