Car repair quote
I've just had a quote for some work on my Rover 25 and I was wondering if anyone had any idea if the prices seem reasonable.
I definitely want the cambelt doing, as it's been 85,000 miles already, but they have also told me that the Power steering and alternator belts and tensioners are both worn and 'noisy'. They've quoted me £150 for the PS and £110 for the alternator, on top of the £180 for the cambelt; are those prices reasonable?
Thanks!

Cambelt price sounds OK, but if they're doing the cambelt it's not much more effort to change the alternator and PAS belts, so those prices are a bit steep. The cambelt will have a tensioner, the alternator possibly but not certainly and the PAS system almost definately not so you should only be paying for belts and labour.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

Early ones had a manual PAS tensioner, later ones were automatic, so probably not going to be cheap.0 -
Please go somewhere else. They have assembled these prices as individual jobs and certainly wont do the jobs as seperate pieces of work, a quote that shows the nature of the garage.
Incidentally, when did you notice these other belts needed attention? If they are needing attention at all, certainly a cambelt change is a good time to be doing them, but I don't buy into the notion of changing them just because they were off.0 -

by the sound of it they trying to have you over as they have to remove the belts to change the cam belt.
Try phoning a couple of local garages and get a quote off them but im sure if you shop around youll be able to get that dropped right down.0 -

Lol, they told me that was the price with the jobs 'together'.
Hmmmm...will have to give it a think - will phone up some other garages to get quotes for comparisons.
And it's an automatic tensioner.0 -

Any idea what prices I should be aiming at for these two items?0 -

What have they quoted for labour, and parts if they split it.
Some of them have an engine mount in the way of the alternator belt, so it has to be removed, and some need the engine dropping to get access to the PAS bolts, so labour may not be just be for a ten minute job.0 -

Even if the cambelt is already off?
I haven't got a split of their prices, but Kwik Fit just quoted me £67 for the belts and £40-45 for the tensioner.0 -
