Hi why cant they fit a PP meter? There are only a couple of reasons as a rule and that is when the meter is not in your flat or it is too high for you to operate.
I have to say that your offer of £5 a week is poor, why should they wait for over 80 weeks to get their money back?
Are you on benefits? You could get your debt and consumption paid through something called Fuel Direct. Ask your supplier for help, they are duty bound to assist you if you are having problems paying for your fuel
Good luck - Hope this helps
i do not think that my offer is poor...i am on benefits, with a child, when i first got the bill it was for £200...i asked for a pre-payment meter & they said i would have to wait 6 weeks for the meter to be installed, so i am not entirelly to blame.

fuel direct is not an option for me... i am actively seeking work & income support will stop for me within 6 months, its not a solution to the problem.
thats not good really, as i have explared this option with them, they said that they will accept my offer of £5 per week & take it straight from my benefits, which i do not mind them doing, however, if i got a job next week, i will have to start the process all over again.

yes, i know they are duty bound to help me...they have said that i will have to clear the debt before they send me out a card.

No you won't be able to switch supplier.

I'm not surprised they have refused your offer - it will take over 18 months to pay off at that rate!

How come you owe them so much money suddenly? If there is an issue that created a sudden large bill that they may be partly to blame for (e.g. an incorrectly set DD or a lack of actual readings for some time) the supplier will generally allow the debt to be paid off over the period it was accrued.

If it was just what you consumed in the last quarter, 4 months to repay seems more than generous.

If you can't do that, they will almost certainly install pre-payment meters and put the debt on those ... but at least you'll be able to repay over a longer period.
(Let's hope they can, else they'll probably cut you off!!!)
    in answer to your reply,

everything you have writen, is wrong.

firstly - i got the 1st bill for £200, i asked them for a pre-payment meter, i had to wait 6 weeks, when they turned up, the man said that he would have to put the job in for 'Special Operations'. i rang them & they gave me another appointment for the next month. when they came, they said that they could not fit it because it was too high.

as for the electricity comp. being 'generious' with me, in on benefits with a child & not fuel direct is not an option.

it was insensitive to put exclaimation marks after your comment about being cut off
