I think a holiday would be a welcome break for you all. If you genuinely can't afford it then what about Butlins? We had to cancel our Holiday to Florida this year due to escalating costs so we went to Butlins for a week instead.
The kids LOVED it. There were tears and sulks all round when we left. It definately is a family orientated holiday? It rained the whole time we were there but made absolutely no difference. There is something on for people of all ages at all times of the day and the staff take the kids off to do activites which will give you and hubby chance to relax and forget about your worries.
    All the best.

well today i got up feeling slightly more positive ..and am thinking master plan ...it's 10 months till we go i don't think we will survive 14 days self catering with £500 but i think £1500 should be enough i know i sound snobby but we were used to u.s.a holidays and canada spending £5000 each time..and i wonder why i'm in debt duh....anyway that makes it £300 a month to save i am gonna transfer £150 every month from my wages treat it exactly llike a bill and the other £150 well i'm gonna involve the family in thinking up ways to make money...why should i do all the hard work ..it may even help the son learn the value of money (something he badly lacks in) and scottish i will be so back on the weebling fron it's gonna be scary ...might even go for 2lb a week ...ooooohhhhh that will be a struggle ..thanks again everyone for your ideas and support i'm feeling alot better now
  • elantan i read this thread yesteday and felt for you only i couldnt post as i had nothing construtive to say (i have never been abroad) but i just want to add today thanks for being less hard on yourself, its a treat and you should go and enjoy it, everyone needs a break from money saving/paying off debt and people that have to go through it for years need some type of a break, whatever you do though while you are away dont be thinking about money and what you could have saved etc etc that would just ruin the whole week, enjoy yourself you deserve it :D but remember to come back here afterwards and tell us all about it :p

  • Dear You!
I agree with the people who say 'just go with the flow'. I must ask - if hubby's booked this holiday is he doing his bit to earn the extra? Can he do odd jobs/bar work/boot sales/etc? Could he look after your kids while you babysit for someone else (for dosh)? Just ideas but I hope they're helpful in getting you to spread the load. What about the kids doing something? Even if they're very young they can still help earn - sell a few toys on e-bay, perhaps or walk someone's dog or collect someone's child from school, perhaps? Don't feel obliged to buy fancy clothes for holidays either. You can find lots of things in charity Shops - that's where I get ALL my clothes and I don't think I look like a bag lady!!!

  • You do seem to be managing your debts very well, so you could look on it as a treat you can plan for- so that you can look forward to it and not feel guilty! Sounds as though you deserve the break

It's a great idea to put away a bit each month rather than put it all on the credit card. You certainly are thinking the DFW way!

    I agree with Tesuhoa (sp)?

Wld be a shame to lose the deposit. Perhaps a partime evening job would pay enough over the year??
