    My mam always goes to cyprus on her hols but she doesn't think it is expensive, she eats fresh fruit and veg over there (sometimes that she's found ....:shhh: so free!
    and she say's because it is so hot and you are so busy looking around and enjoying yourself you don't spend much.
    she also bought a lot of jewellery while she was there (white gold i think) for very cheap and sold it on ebay for about 3x the amount she bought it for!:j

  • Don't be so hard on yourself, we all slip up from time to time. Just keep on your budget, save for the holiday, and keep reducing the debt! Seems hard, but I am doing it all too! Just booked Cuba for Easter, so I speak from experience!!

    Good luck!!

    Why shouldn't you have a holiday?

    If £1500 plus spends is such a problem, couldn't you generate the extra cash on Ebay or something?
    [strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!
  • it's gonna cost £1500 for the three of us then we have spending money on top of that ...
    the worst case scenario is that you won't be able to find a cheaper deal and so will have to find 2k by next year. how many months exactly do you have? divide 2k (1500 plus say 500 for spending money) by number of months- say 10- which means you have to find 200 per month (or whatever), think of ways you can raise this each month- set yourself targets e.g. e bay, car boot sales, reviewing expenditure, part-time work, overtime, saving money at xmas and putting it for holiday etc etc. there's another thread where someone wants to make 1000 by xmas- why not go head to head with them? (no it's not me). you be suprised what can be achieved with a little friendly competition etc

    I was just going to say something like this. Youve got plenty of time to budget for it. Could you not put money away each week in a separate pot, preferably a savings account where you would get some interest on the money. If you set up a standing order and treat it like a bill that has to be paid every week you will do it. Put away the most you can afford and any extra mon ey that comes your way during the year, tax rebates, moneyback cash, overtime, etc, etc. Meanwhile, if you are fed up with having no money you can research the web about Cyprus (I hear that there are fabulous beaches and that its absolutely beautiful) and dream of your summer holiday. Youve got something to work towards and look forward to. A goal, a target, its nice to have something like that.

  • Hey elantan,

    I for one think its fabulous - my OH is a homebody and not a fan of holidays so I think you are really lucky to be going away!

    Anyway my point is that this now gives you a MASSIVE incentive for the DFW Weeble Challenge! We'll get you into a bikini! How about it?

    scottishspendaholic x
    MBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
    Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
    Bank of Scotland = £2,782.83
