Blackberry or Iphone

Both are specialised. Blackberry is built specifically for mobile email - bigger size handset with full QWERTY keyboard. iPod is a smartphone much loved by consumers of beer mat apps
Both are "good" according to their fans who love their speciality What do you want from a phone? A small handset? A decent camera? Simplicity? Neither of these are for you if thats what you need.....0 -
Having had a Blackberry I can say that they are fab phones for email and texting as the qwerty keyboard is a joy to use, they are also secure phones and can encrypt your phones content making it super safe from prying eyes. They also feel nice in your hand and aren't big and bulky.
Blackberry's aren't any good for Internet has they have a small screen unless you go for the Storm which does have some problems though. Also if you're looking for 3G and GPS on a Blackberry then choose the Bold as cheaper models like the 8520 do not have GPS or 3G which was a big downfall for me. Also the small screen wasn't big enough for the Internet. The Blackberry didn't make my life as easy as I wanted as there is limited amount of apps that aren't aimed for personal use, after all a Blackberry is a business phone.
Over all it's a great phone and if your looking for top notch email support, easy texting and emailing and a highly secure phone with GPS and 3G then go for the Blackberry Bold as it supports 3G and GPS and feels more stable, the 8520 for example feels cheap but performs well )almost).
The iPhone is a beast without a doubt, everything on it is slick and just works. Email is fantastic and the onscreen qwerty keyboard is super smooth and easy to use, just feeling an iPhone gives you the impression that it's craftsmanship is perfect, it just feels like a super high quality, stable phone (you know what I mean iPhone users). The iPhone makes my life soooo much easier, it has everything I need in a phone, not only that but it's also an iPod!
The Internet is a must for me and browsing is quick and smooth thanks to the 3G support and super responsive big touch screen, also if you need to zoom in you just pinch the screen inwards.
Email is just great and reminds me of a real inbox, you can sync with your fave email provider such as Gmail or Yahoo etc. and is quick to receive email.
Texting is quick and is threaded meaning that if you want to look at a previous message from your friend you just scroll up though the message, no going back and forward in your inbox looking at sperate texts.
The apps are amazing, it has something for everything both free and paid (the free apps are just as good as paid ones), if you choose to pay they start from as little as 59p. Apps are highly addictive!
One of my latest apps is AroundMe which can find you the local pub, atm, hospital, hotel etc and plot the route on a map. One I use daily is NextBusses, it finds all the local local bus stops wherever you are and gives you the time tables for any bus stop you choose. Also if I'm on a bus or train or just walking around and I hear some talking about a cool CD I can down it right to my phone from the iTunes app or if I want to buy a present for someone in 30s I can click the Amazon or eBay app and buy something in seconds. Also I have the Argos app so I can sit on the train browse the catalog and reserve whatever I want, get off the train and go pick it up without queuing for a catalog. Hell I can sit on the bus and do my weekly Asda shop!
I've also got direct access to all the news and blogs of my choice so I get news on the move from my Sky News app or EnGadget app. There is even a banking app so you never have to logon to the web or do phone banking! Your bank usually provides you with that app.
I used to think that iPhones were for those that wanted to show off but I know now that people use them because they are a life tool that will anything you want it to do. My dad has an HTC Desire I think it is and feeling and playing with it made me think "it just isn't an iPhone".
Also if you want to chat to your mates you can either use MSN or WhatsApp where you can chat with your mates with a Blackberry or iPhone.
Blackberry's are great if you want to make phone calls, email and text.
Iphone's are great for the above and just about anything else you can think off, I can guarantee that if you get an iPhone it will be the only phone you'll ever need and it will make your life so much easier.0 -

Everything you have just described above is not exclusive to the iphone.0 -
it really depends on what you use your phone for. If its 90%+ emailing/texting, grab a blackberry. They are such neat, slim devices and make a easy job of sending long messages. Hard keyboards are always going to be easier to use than a touchscreen.
However if you want to use your phone for a lot of different things, want to take advantage of applications (mentioned in the above posts), then go andriod or iphone. Blackberry do have some apps but they are thin in the ground, only the most popular apps ever make it to blackberry like weather updates etc.
There is not much diff between an iphone or andriod. Apple lead the way in a smooth user experience but you can access all functionality on the phone easily with either. You pay the price for apple though, with andriod you have the flexibility of cheap to expensive handsets. I should note some andriod phones do have hard keyboards but not many, and they are a lot wider than blackberrys. If you can handle that, then andriod with a hard keyboard is a good option also, because you get the messaging ease of a blackberry but the great andriod experience as well.
Handled a blackberry 9700 (work phone), iphone 2g (sold), Google G1 (andriod/sold). Getting a HTC Desire (andriod) tomorrow.

Blackberry is good if you want the QWERTY keyboard, but having said that the iPhone keyboard in landscape mode is pretty good too. I can type *almost* as fast on that as I did on my N97's flip out keyboard.
The big advantage of the iPhone is the same advantage Windows has in the desktop world, overwhelming application support. If someone is developing an app they'll make it for the iPhone first, then maybe Android, then maybe Blackberry.
Using something other than an iPhone is, perhaps ironically like using a Mac, it does most things but not *everything*.0 -

if you want to use flash based websites, then the iphone is and will be useless as apple has no plans of supportinf flash. html5 is still up in the air. majority of websites use flash for videos and the iphone is next to useless if you want to access those videos as you will get an alert saying need to download a non existent addon.
even if you use itunes, doubletwist on the android market should do you fine or the many other similar apps that help you synch your itunes library. plus you can download music from anywhere including the itunes store for your android phone and amazon mp3 are cheap.
but if you need proxy support for wifi for accessing univ internet etc then android is not for you, although there seem to be work around solutions but i havent tried them as i dont need to use proxies for wifi.
i have been using google navigation on android phone (htc desire) and it is great, but on two occassions i couldnt get a signal but usually i get a signal within 5 secs of starting the program and lost signal only two times in the last month and a half of using google navigation (voice). but it does cut into your data allowance.
most other stuff available on the itunes store will have similar stuff available on android market with some exceptions i guess as no one will have tried every app on any of the markets.
its a bit like buying a house (just an analogy, dont take it literally), if you want a show home with restrictions on changing the decor etc then buy the iphone as you wont be able to change it much, if you want to tweak the phone the way you want it then buy android. but do make a list of requirements (essential and desirable) and see which phone suits your needs best based on those requirements.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
I didn't like the Blackberry keyboard, I think that's probably because I had an 8520 so the buttons were quite small, but I couldn't use it to type properly and can text much fast using a phone keypad. Just a personal observation

As most have said, it's all about what you want from your phone. I would suggest trying a few out, getting a feel for the OS and stuff like that. But, like you said, get saving
