running a stove with doors open?

Does anyone know of any stoves that you can run with the doors open sometimes? I know it won't be efficient, but it's nice to have an open fire so I'm looking for a small stove that I could use as an open fire sometimes. I know stovax do the regency but that's to big. Or perhaps an open fire that you can shut! like the jetmasters but with more than just a fireguard?

You can run any stove with the door open. It's essentially just a metal box to burn things in. As you said, it will burn better with the door closed.

How about a glass door, almost the best of both worlds.

99% of stove manuals will say to run with the doors shut. They're not designed to run with the doors open.

There are stoves available to run with the doors open though and this is one of the best i've seen. It has very simple air controls, kicks out some serious heat and keeps the glass very clean.

Nordpeis are an expensive stove but the quality is exceptional. They also make their internals from Thermotte which is designed to burn clean once it reaches a certain temperature. This keep the inside of your stove looking clean rather than sooty and black.

Dovre make one that looks similar but the quality and usability is nowhere near. The Dovre has about 10 air sliders you have to adjust whereas the Nordpeis has 2.

The Stovax Regency is not a very airtight stove and has very low efficiency figures. It depends what your after though. The Regency is cheap as chips so it depends on budget and what you want to get out of your stove. The Nordpeis can be an efficient, attractive wood burning stove or it can be a lovely open fire. The regency can only really be an inefficient open fire......it is not efficient as a stove. The Regency is a mass produced chinese stove.

My parents have got a large InterOven stove. It runs superbly with doors open and kicks out so much heat! I think InterOven are out of business now but were large in their time, and company started in 1920's........

  • Hi,
the Charnwood Country range states on their website as able to run with the doors open, but as previous post said it wont be very efficient and all the warm air in your room will go up the flue.

    regards

    Willie.
