This is an extremely dangerous approach. Trying to play psychological games with someone who appears to have significant MH issues could lead to very unpredictable (and unpleasant) results.
I agree.
Whatever the problem is, it isn't going to be resolved overnight, if ever completely.
It's going to take a lot of effort from him and the rest of the family so I think it is sensible to plan ahead.
I can't begin to imagine how he would cope being plunged into the outside world after all this time.
