Dear sir/madam
LETTER BEFORE ACTION
I went in to your store on? Where I purchased? Following there use on a limited number of occasions they became faulty (explain why).
I have attempted to return them for a refund at? Where I was told that there is a 28 days policy.
Whilst I appreciate that this is policy I am very unhappy at my treatment having being a regular customer for many years.
Furthermore in accordance with the sale of goods act 1979 no time limit is quoted for the return of faulty goods, the law sates that it should be within a reasonable time.
Taking into account all the facts I believe that I am rejecting the goods within a reasonable period of time and wish to have a full refund in accordance with the sale of goods act 1979 as the goods were not of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose.
I look forward to your response within the next 10 days however if you fail to issue me a refund in accordance with my rights then I will be filing a claim at my local county court as advised by my local trading standards.

I wouldn't go as far as court, no way, but I won't be shopping there anymore.

yeah but they dont know that you wont go to court, you just blag it a bit so they take you more seriously 9 times out of 10 that sort of letter addressed to the Company secretary works.0

I am a trading standards officer for a london borough, she will only end up getting the same advice, although I would always advise people to contact their local trading standards if they have an issue.0 -
What about goods being fit for purpose?
Wearing a pair of football boots 4 times before they break does not make them fit for pupose does it?
You were definately entitled to a refund.
I am a retail manager of a shoe store and a pair of shoes have to last a 'reasonable amount of time' - ok, there is no timescale as everyone wears down shoes at different rates but 6 weeks wear is not acceptable especially if they have only been worn a few times.
Obviously wear and tear has to be taken into consideration but if you had your receipt which proves you had only had them for 6 weeks and they were of reasonable condition to reflect that they had only been worn a few times you should definately have recieved a refund.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

You are correct for most of what you say apart from the refund bit.
Yes there not of satisfactory quality and yes there not fit for the purpose, we all agree, however the 6 week period that has elapsed would be taken by most to mean that the "goods have been accepted" meaning that it is a breach of warranty as opposed to breach of contract. In those circumstances the OP is not entitled to a full refund. If you speak to any CAB advisor or consumer direct advisor or and officer they will tell you the same thing.
The op is however entitled to repair/replace/partial refund.
Of course each case is different and it would be for a county court judge to rule given all the facts.0 -

yes I agree I think its harsh, I also think in terms of good customer relations that within 6 weeks (which is a bit of a grey area) a full refund should be given, and you are right when you talk about good customer service, its a shame others dont think like you0
