Water Boiler Problem

Hi, I will try explain the best I can and hope someone can help me!

My water boiler (Chaffoteaux et Maury: Britony) has stopped producing hot water :(

The pilot light ignites fine but when you turn on a hot water tap, instead of the flame growing, it goes out hence no hot water.

Any ideas on what problem could be causing the pilot light to go off when trying to use the hot water?

I think im going to have to call out an engineer but I dont want to get ripped off! so if anyone has any info that could help me, or an idea on what sort of cost I should be looking at I would appreciate it, thanks again.

It is possibly(probably) the thermocouple needs replacing - a fairly minor job. However there are far more knowledable people than I on this Board.

You could always go onto another Board and seek advice.

If it is that fault, with a call out fee should be in the region of £50-60.

However how do any of us prevent getting ripped off? - it seems to be a 'right' for many of the Plumbing fraternity. That is the reason many of us elect for the BG Homecare plan, or similar.

After 25 yrs satisfied with BG Homecare, I see nothing ironic, just another case of "Let's slag off the big boys".
Too many of these on here lately and so boring.

I do, after dealing with a lot of ex-customers of theirs, it's my opinion and I'm entitled to it, just like you.
