Edam is a good idea as it has quite a mild processed taste I think. My kids love it, but I begrudge buying foreign cheese when there are so many lovely English cheeses around.0

Dunno 'bout famous!
This week has gone something like this...
snacks either fruit or HM cake, usually have a snack at about 10 am when at home, and after school about 3.30pm Unfortunately we have a backlog of crisps from mum (bless her!) so they shared a bag, and had some fruit. Other snacks they like are sunflower seeds and peanuts still in the shells. I think ds1 may be a squirrel as I found he has been hiding nuts in his room. The rest of the time they know they are allowed fruit but they still tend to ask first.
Fussy DD likes smoothies with a raw egg in them! (late evening treat after badgers on a Tuesday.
Packed lunch is juice, sandwich and fruit, then hm cake/flapjack or yoghurt. Fillings alternate between salami, cheese, cheese and marmite, banana (send them with a banana and a knife) tuna/mayo, cucumber...
DS1 also likes culinary adventures such as pasta salad or vegetarian curries in his packed lunch
Main meals are/were
Monday Beef stew with HM bread
Tuesday HM pizza with sweetcorn, mushroom, sundried tomato, chillies.
Wednesday Tuna/pasta bake (spaghetti/carrot bake for DD - don't ask!!!) and a salad of home produced eggs and watercress which dd picked at the weekend
Thursday Lasagne made with leftover bolognese type sauce from the freezer, with more salad, and garlic mushrooms - dd picked some wild mushrooms too
Friday - stir-fry veg with pork and probably special fried rice and noodles, depends what comes in the veg box.
Saturday havent got that far because it's in next weeks' budget, but prob something with sausages in, as I have some in the freezer.
sunday is usually a roast dinner, but this week OH is taking us all to his cricket teams fundraising day, so we have packed lunch (HM bread and cake with fruit)
PHEW! Hope to have helped someone;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I never give my lot a choice, I decide what we're having for dinner, and it's a case of "Eat it or go hungry"! They will say "What's for dinner?" but never usually complain when told what it is. The only time I pander to them is when I know that they really hate it. My son will eat every vegetable going except peas (which most kids love!) and my daughter hates fish, so I compromise. I cook peas for me and daughter, and throw in some broccoli for son.
I've never had a problem, and you won't either!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

I forgot breakfast.
Cereals such as weetabix (economy copies!) porridge or hm toast, occasional smoothie or scrambled egg, and ds1 had cappucino and french bread with butter the other day as he wanted to eat like the french and dip his bread in his coffee (decaf just in case...). He thought this was very grown-upMember no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Sarahsaver, fantastic as usual, thanks for all the trouble you went to there. I am now armed with ideas for my kids, and also new ideas for me.
You will all be pleased to note that I have managed in one day to switch all three of them to tap water instead of aspartamine and saccharin laden squash. One of them did have a mini tantrum but I held firm and said it would make her healthy and I said if you are really thirsty you will drink it, look at the other 2 drinking it and it worked!! My youngest ate proper cheddar today which I was happy with. My 4 year old wouldn't touch her thinly cut cheddar cheese sandwich at lunch but had beans on toast instead and for dinner they had normal potatoes instead of waffles. In addition we all had dinner together at 6pm, it was a struggle to get them to bed, but I am going to persist. My eldest had a taste of chilli con carne with rice last night using chopsticks to make it fun, so I am busy making a chart of the new foods they are trying. I can't believe how many great ideas are out there, next time I go shopping I am going to buy Edam cheese, tuna, deli ham, bananas to make smoothies, fruit layer yoghurts, although remembered my 4 year old loves that activia yoghurt in my Mum's house the one with the prunes!! and I never thought to buy it for my house, because I know my eldest would not touch it, corn on the cob, cheddar slices that are mild, marmite, crackers and I am also going to experiment with fruits. My 4 year old also loved sunflower seeds which I gave her today, so there is hope for me after all, I forgot they already love raisins. Also will try new sandwich fillings instead of always ham or cheese, will try marmite, banana and tuna/mayo, I will try salami at a later stage. I am also making my chilli con carne milder, I only put in a half teaspoon of chilli powder into the slow cooker instead of my one or one and a half I usually use. I also like the idea of special fried rice with pork and noodles for me, but will also try the kids out with it. Sarahsaver do you have a breadmaker to help you? I am dreaming of the panasonic sd253 and am busy saving for it. I think it would be great for the pizza dough and rolls as well as the brown bread. Anyway thanks to you all, I never know what to get them when I go shopping that is why it is always the same stuff so now I will be more organised. :T :T :T :A :jPenny xxx

Wow, that is one great post! I've followed this thread over the last couple of days & the clearest thing that jumps out at me is that you're not a bad mother feeding your kids full of junk, you just needed a bit of inspiration :j
That's the great thing about the OS board - people ask one question & everyone jumps in with some fabulous ideas. What a great community, I wish I lived in old style-ville for real!0 -
Thanks Lucie, you said what I was going to say, only better.
Way to go Penny:T0 -
In my (student) house we have a family meal night once a week. When it is Tom's turn to cook he always does chilli-con carne because it is the only thing he knows how to make. He serves it up with natural yoghurt on the side which we can mix in to cool it down a bit tastewise and to make it creamier. He likes his extra fiery and adds a dash of tobasco to it once it is on his plate. That way we all get our chilli customised to the way we like it.0

I just wanted to let you know how we are doing, after the total switch over to water, all my kids love the Dutch Edam cheese slices and the proper ham I got 97% pork. 2 out of 3 of them loved the fruit layer yoghurt, I have just abandoned yoghurt altogether with the 6 year old as he will only eat that suger laden fromage frais stuff. I also bought more fruit than usual this week so anytime they need a snack that is what they get instead of chocolate spread sandwiches etc. I am giving a hm tuna pasta bake a go for dinner tonight so fingers crossed it will go well, and we are all going to sit down and eat it in about 10 mins. Thanks again for the tips just wanted to let you know we are trying them all out one by one.Penny xxx
