Artifical flowers, what do you think?

I was really undecided about flowers but as I am making all the wedding flowers myself I decided that I probably just won't be calm enough to start making up fresh bouquets the day before the wedding.
I went to a local wholesalers who specialise in artificial flowers and was won over - I didn't pick the most expensive but once made up into a bouquet I was really pleased with the results. I will try and get some photos and post them up later. I used silk roses and it really is hard to tell the difference, so far two people who have seen them asked if they were real.
I do agree about the smell of fresh flowers though and I'm considering getting some fresh freesias the day before and slotting them into the bouquets on the wedding morning...either that or maybe spraying them with a freesia scented fabric spray!0 -
I had to have artificial flowers at my wedding in 2002 as I get really bad hayfever, as do my bridesmaids. 8 years on and we all have our flowers in vases as table centre pieces. :j0

I adore flowers, but all that money for them to get chucked in the bin the next day..! I picked up some ornamental birdcages in the Confetti sale and some candelabras from e bay, so we have got a mixture of heights, which I think will look nice in the pics.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Thankyou for such a useful thread! I was a bridemaid last year, with real flowers - they were beautiful but by the night were going brown and sad looking, now am planning my own wedding and really keen on artificial, also is one less thing to worry about arriving on the day, could do these way ahead of time!I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

We had artificial flowers for our wedding in Cyprus last year, I wanted to take exactly what I wanted over with us and not be dealing with florists in the few days we had before our wedding. I got them from Sarahs flowers and they were amazing, fantastic quality and excellent customer service0

hi, ive gone for fake as like you i like the idea of keeping them and that i have them all done and dusted before the wedding. As for expense though, the price varies and if you pay for cheap then you probably get cheap, but if you do it yourself then you can get more expensive individual flowers and be really creative.

now i was lucky in that i had a friend who had done floristry help make these, but she made mine and at the same time i copied and made my sisters. It wasnt exceptionally tricky, just time consuming, and occasionally frustrating, but the beauty of fake - you get it wrong you take it apart and start again. And i am sure there are lots of you tube vids on how to do thigs like this.
In terms of cost, what we did was go for expensive fake roses - nearly £2 a head, but then we went for bog standard for the rest - and this looks fine because it is the overall impression that counts so the focal point looks quite real.
So i think my bouquet in total probably did cost £20ish and my sisters a little less, which i think is very reasonable. so if your going to have fake you should try and have a go at doing it yourself.getting married: 02/10/10
