Ipod touch question-Novice here

Options
Hi. I hope this is in the right place. I have an Ipod which is a brick of a thing. It's great and works fine but is obviously limited.
In the summer we are travelling around Malaysia and may well be out of touch with home for awhile. So I was wondering . If I was to buy an I pod touch, which as I understand it can connect to the internet, would I be able to use it for e-mail contact? We have wireless internet at home so I presume I could use that when at home. In a couple of the places we are staying they advertise free internet connection. So would I be able to use this to keep in contact with my parents via e-mail?

I have looked at the iphone but it is really too expensive and anyway we don't have mobile contracts. (real dinosaur here:o) So what do people think? Is there anything I need to know...like this model works better than that, or a new model is coming out in one month? Ipad looks great but would not really fit in my rucksack.

Thanks in advance for your replies.:)

    Hi

I have an ipod touch and yes you can connect to any wireless internet connection to check your emails.

The only problem i see is making sure you can connect to a free wirless network. When you connect at home it will ask for the password (assuming your protecting your home network). But ive connected to other free networks as well.

Dont rush to buy though, apple products are usually on a yearly cycle and the touch was updated last aug/sep so wait for a good one :D

The apple refurb store has an 8GB current model for £129 inc delivery, I have a touch and it's ideal for what you want, you can set the email up on it before you go and then just connect to a network while you are away.

I got my second generation iPod Touch after the 3rd gen came out, it's the 8Gb model and I read whilst researching it that the 3rd gen 8Gb Touch is the same as the 2nd gen but with upgraded operating system. I got my second gen preowned (barely used) on eBay from a seller who had bought an iPhone instead. I connected it to iTunes to begin setup and it immediately suggested I update to the latest OS which it did for free. I therefore recommend considering a 2nd Generation one :) Might save you a fair few quid.

Wireless internet is certainly handy with the iPod Touch, saves firing up the PC or laptop just to check ebay or emails, and I have surfed so many sites on it too - even posting here at times! Mine cost me £107 in November and I still love it to bits, so many apps available free and portable music collection to boot :D
Erm, I sound like Apple staff, I can assure you I am not :p

I have been given a brand new Ipod touch 8gb(daughter won it and has far grander devices).

I find it absolutely remarkable what such a small device can achieve.

However I am stumped on one issue and I wonder if anyone can advise me.

I can download photos from my PC and as a test downloaded masses(in fact duplicates of some) - however I can't find any way of removing them!!!!
None of the instructions(as far as I can see) give me that option.

    Any advice please?
  • If you have an eBay account then buy this charger before you go, I bought mine from them last week at £2.80 but the price seems to be going up. Apple charge £22 for theirs, what a rip-off!
