Epson Ink: Genuine or not?

OK I did a quick search but got hundreds if not thousands of results!

What are the pro's and con's of buying genuine Espon cartridges to just normal compatible ones?

  • i go to http://www.amazon.co.uk ink is cheaper for epson printers we have a r300 printer i got a pack of 6 inks ( epson value pack - under £38.00 ) on the epson website it was £50.00 exc - delivery. also amazon do free delivery for items over £15.00 also they have individual sellers so you may get your epson ink even cheaper, we have had epson printers since 1998 and i recommend using epson inks in our printer.

but ive never had other makes of ink in our printer so i cannot say what other manufacturers of epson printers is like, only that i recommend epson ink time and time again , also if your epson printer is under the 12 month or even a extended warranty i would use epson printer inks just to be sure nothing happens to it , because you may lose out on your waranty and it can void it.

    sorry i cannot help much,

    see you from kerry.

The Epson inks tend to last longer and not fade as much in the sun, but they cost more..
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

i have an epson printer and for a while wouldn't buy anything but genuine.
found somewhere where i was able to by compats for 99p, so i tried them and haven't gone back since.
as i don't print many photos then not affected by albertross point, though i am sure he is correct.

guess it depends what you are going to use it for.
Ever stop to think and forget to start again?

To be honest it's only really for letters and stuff so I've bought some compatibles. Will give them a try! Can't argue at the price! :D

    Thanks peeps!

For my own printer there is one key difference - about £22 per cartridge!

I got an Epson Stylus D88 recently and after the genuine cartridges which came with the printer had finished I used compatibles (Premier Ink Supplies). Much cheaper and I think the quality is fine. The only downside is that just before the printer starts printing the job, there is a prompt on screen that the cartridges are not genuine and do you wish to continue and you have to click through this. Couldn't find any way to disable that feature. Apart from that, can recommend the compatibles.
  • We have an epson R300 and only ever buy compatibles for it - the only genuines it has ever had were the ones that came with it about a year ago. I would probably recommend using genuine once in a while but if its only for letters etc in the main I wouldn't bother. We haven't had any problems with photos etc and have a few framed that we printed off and have experienced no fading etc at all.

No doubt some of the non-genuine versions of ink cartridge will not be up to the same standard as Epson, but the fact of the matter is that if you get 3 or 4 non-genuine cartridges for the price of 1 Epson one, I know which way I would go. Be careful though - think if you use non Epson cartridges it invalidates your warranty so don't use in the first year...

Original cartridges last longer in terms on amount of ink and also prints will not fade over time.

Compats will forever get clogged up and you'll waste about 1/3 of the cartridge cleaning the nozzles out. Some are better than others.

If your printing photos, some compats won't look right either.

The best I've found are at 7dayshop.com. 99p and they don't get clogged up as much as others I've used. Forget the guarantee as it'll cost you more to send it back! Chuck it in the bin if it don't work!

I use compats just because for the cost of a set of genuine refills, I can buy the whole printer for less! That to me is totally perverse!

The best price/quality ink IMHO is from http://www.choicestationery.com - and they regularly have 10% or 20% off.

The worst is from http://www.prink.co.uk - awful stuff.
