Landlord won't let us go into rolling tenancy after 12months

Hello,
We originally signed a 12 month contract and now wish to extend, as does the landlord. We wanted it rolling as we are thinking of buying although it's still just a hope at the moment.
The landlord has said that we have to renew for another 12 months as they have to have the tenancy ending in July.
What can/should we do?

Just wanted to say we are really good tenants, always pay on time and have even agreed to a £50 a month increase!Anna :beer:0

dont sign.. they will have to go to court to get you out.. are you dealing with the landlord in person or the letting agent ?0

Keep a low profile? Once you go 1 day over your AST, you are on a periodic contract anyway. If LL is stupid enough to evict, then go quietly and look for a 6 month AST.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The stupid thing for them is that if we don't sign they don't get the increase! I suppose references don't matter if we are going to buy.Anna :beer:0

Can't imagine they would evict us? Would cost them money, take time and they'd be left with no tenants and no guarantee about it ending in July anyway.
Apparently it's because the contract for the house they are in, for which they have just renewed for another 12 months, ends in July (they live abroad).Anna :beer:0 -
Who told you that? Letting Agent? It makes no sense to me and I suggest they are spinning you a line. Can't imagine they would evict us? Would cost them money, take time and they'd be left with no tenants and no guarantee about it ending in July anyway.

its most likely to be the agent wanting a fee... as a LL i agree with the above advice.. keep your head down and dont sign.. be out.. break an appointment... lose the form.. whatever.. i hate letting agents who do this....0

Not sure about this - my mortgage company asked for LL's contact details for a reference (though I'm not sure they ever got/asked for it)The stupid thing for them is that if we don't sign they don't get the increase! I suppose references don't matter if we are going to buy.
Good luck with the rest though!0
