Are you with a debt managment company that are charging you for the plan?

It seems madness that you have an income of £3700 yet are unable to pay council tax of approx £130 (10 months).

If I were you I'd pop over to the debt free board as something is going badly wrong if you are not able to pay a priority bill to keep up payments to unsecured creditors, who should be waiting until you have paid to live before they take their cut.
  • Hello.

Council Tax Benefit is primarily offered to low-income families/households.

With your income you would not qualify. The council wouldn't entertain it.

If you have a DMP in place with a reputable company I would suggest you speak to them and explain you are struggling. After all, a DMP is a 'gentleman's agreement' between you and your creditors so providing you're not expecting the world, I'm sure you could get your monthly DMP payment down £100-200.

Hope that helps but unless I am very, very much mistaken you're barking up the wrong tree attempting Council Tax assistance.

    Kindest regards

I earn approx. £1200 p/m. Applied for Council Tax Benefit as my 64yr old husband had a heart attack in April. He cannot work and is entitled to no benefits as I work.
Told to apply for CTB, which we did.
It was refused as the weekly earnings limit for a family with pensioner element is £202.

This was only last week. If you can earn over £3000 p/m think I'll ask for a re-count lol

I pay more than that, get no help and have an income smaller than yours (although not by much).

Tax Credits £288.04 £5.52 Child tax credit.
    Means-tested bill reductions
Council Tax Benefit £1,345.28 £25.80 You should not have to pay Council Tax as you qualify for full Council Tax Benefit. Our calculation is based on you receiving £5.52 from child tax credit.
    Other income entitlements
    Child Benefit £2,455.92 £47.10
    Total Entitlements £4,089.24 £78.42 weekly

There's no mention in there of your salary?
You def won't qualify if you earn £50k a year. Let's face it, if it's possible to get Council Tax Benefit when you have a slary of £50k coming in then we'd all be entitled and hardly anyone would be paying Council Tax!
Serously though, if you've entered all your salary and benefits that you already get and it still shows you're entitled to Council Tax benefit then your Council probably need to know their website is defective.
