Hello, it's me again. Another update on MH and I.
I had a letter from 'Chris Fox' advising me I had to pay the balance in full by 13 May. The letter was dated 6 May, I received it on 20th May. A full week after the deadline they set! Silly MH - a classic trick I have seen mentioned on here countless times. I have also had one phonecall from a guy with a distinctly Glaswegian accent - I said they had the wrong number, knowing exactly who they were before I asked (you remember me saying I didn't actually give my telephone number? I wonder where they got this from?).
I have sent the CCA letter to them (embellished with lots of red font and highlighting like their letter to me) recorded delivery yesterday with a postal order for £1 made out to Mackenzie Hall. I advised that all contact should be by post from now on as I find their call centre staff unnecessarily rude, aggressive and unhelpful.
They haven't yet logged a default on my credit file, I am hoping sending this letter will prevent them from doing so...
However, I must point out that as this is a genuine debt, I am willing to pay it back. I just refuse to deal with these cowboys and their harassment.0 -
Hi
OH received letter - done like a payslip in blue paper with sticky round edges from MH asking him to call saying "this is not a circular of junk mail - we need to contact you urgently re ref no XXXXXXX. OH called (I wasn't at home) and they said it was for a debt. OH said that he had paid off a debt recently and he didn't owe anyone. Asked him and he can't remember any debts - They asked him to send through a copy of the settlement letter for the debt he paid. I am unsure of this and want to send through the letter seen on here stating that OH wants a copy of the credit agreement and details of the debt as they wouldn't say who it was with over the telephone. Is this the best way to go with this?
ThanksMortgage free as at 1/9/13 :j

Hi, I am new to this site and have been reading all the bad reports of Mackenzie Hall.
I have been dealing with them indirectly through my partner who had an old debt but unfortunatly not old enough for the staute of limitations to apply.
We offered them a payment plan which they originally accepted and then when trying to make a second payment they turned down. After going backwards and forwards over the same details every time, I wrote a letter which my partner sent including a cheque for the first installment of the disputed payment plan and advised the banking of which would be acceptance of this payment plan. Which they duly did, and now try to say there is no payment plan.
We have kept sending them a cheque every month which they bank and then call up with threats of taking him to court, which is completly proposperous as reasonable payments are being made.
They are such a terrible company, and I fully intend to report them to the OFT. It is appauling the way they treat people, swearing, bullying and threatening, all behaviours which are against the law, and it is the person who breaks the law and who would be fined by the OFT not the copmany, so always get names, although a series of complaints on the same company would result in the company being fined andclosed down!0 -

Send the standard letter along with the statutory £1 fee and ask for a copy of a signed consumer credit agreement, and a copy of any notice of assignment. I would guess that they won't be able to provide either and therefore the debt is uncollectable in court. You will then be able to tell them to swing.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. Hello world.
This is my first time on a forum.
Like many others I too received a letter from Mackenzie Hall. I called them this morning after taking advise to do so from the CCCS (Consumer Credit Councelling Service).
I spoke to Scot who on first impression seemed a nice enough chap.
The CCCS had advised me to simply obtain the following information:
Who the Debt is with?
Amount of the debt?
Date of the debt?
Scot advised me that the debt was for £225.37 and had been purchased by a company called Arrow Global (who if you google are a large scale debt purchaser based in london) so far as who the debt was with and the date of the debt he had no further details. I requested he post me the details when he has them.
He requested that he call me back and asked for my phone number, at which point i told him I do not have a land line in my property, he requested my mobile number and I told him I did not have a mobile either, he then rather disgruntledly said "how are you phoning me then?" to which I replied "on a skype phone attached to my pc", with which he hung up!
I will keep you posted of any further correspondance and have already noted the letters and comments others have posted.0 -
I am hoping someone might beable to give me some advice on a matter regarding the rather horrible sounding Mackenzie Hall.
Approximately 5 years ago I was with an ex who got me into a lot of debt using credit cards. I eventually saw sense and finished things with him but unfortunately all the debt was in my name but fortunately at the time i was lucky enough to be in a position to ask my parents for help. They paid off all my credit card accounts for me which i am still paying them back for today!
So imagine my shock when back in July 08 I received a letter from a company called ScotCall Debt Collecting Services with an address in Glasgow, demanding payment for one of the above accounts, which my parents paid off. I decided to call to find out what the letter was all about and explain the situation, I spoke to a lady who was very nice, she apologised about the letter and said it was probably sent in error, she would look into it and someone would call me back. Which I was more than happy with, I never received a phone call or letter from anyone so thought that the letter must have been sent in error and I forgot about it until a couple of weeks ago when i received a voicemail from a lady at a company called Mackenzie Hall asking me to contact them urgently. She didnt say what it was regarding, all she left was a name, reference number and telephone number. I googled them and was quite surprised to learn that they were a debt collecting agency specialising in debts over 6 years old. I then decided to pay to look at my credit score and report, which came back as 900/1000 which is meant to be good, i looked at the full report and there is nothing on there about any outstanding debts. Therefore I didnt call them back, however about a week later I received a text message asking me to contact Joe at Mack Hall and again they quoted the same reference number, I ignored it and then yesterday I received a letter from them, on photocopied headed paper with a typed signature, the letter is demanding payment of the full amount within 3 days!
What should I do, should I write to them? Ignore it? Because of my financial situation I had to move home with my parents, so I obviously dont want baliffs or anything turning up at my parents house demanding money or anything.
Any help would be most appreciated?0 -

Certainly ignore the part which demands full payment within 3 days.
Do they tell you what the 'debt' is for?
If not, then send them the 'prove it letter' that you will find on the following link: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893
If the reference number refers to a 'debt' to which you have made no written acknowledgementof, or payment towards, in the last six years (five in Scotland) then have a look at the following link:
http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=25_liability_for_debts_and_the_limitation_act
As it's Mackenzie Hall, the chances are that the 'debt' in question is no longer recoverable through the courts, so they have to resort to threats.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Yes they have given me details as to which credit card account they are chasing money for but as far as im concerned it was paid in full and the account is closed. Surely if I owed the sum of money that they are chasing (approx 2K) it would show on my credit score report?
I really dont know what to do? Should I write to them explaining everything and see what happens?0
