Hi folks
If you're in Cambridge, why not pop over to bargain hunter's paradise of Ely (13 mins or so on train - use Network card at weekend). There's even a Tesco by the station for a cheap cuppa or other bargain hunting.
I recommend Thing-me-Bobs in Market Street for all sorts of random cheap groceries eg Italian Panettone for £1.99 a kilo - you never know what you'll find. We also have pretty good charity shops (books £1 in Heart Foundation) and stupendous reductions in Waitrose about 1.5 hours before they close each day. Today's buys included chargrilled chicken with mayonnaise and mozarella with pine kernels and sundried tomatoes, both for 19p per 100 grams.
We have free band concerts in the park by the river most Sundays and some Saturdays in summer.
Also - cathedral is free to visit on Sundays (main bargain shops open).
Hope to bump into you sometime soon.0 -
I love Ely, it's very pretty down by the river. Kids love the train ride too - nice change to being stuck in the car.0

Here's one for the eccentrics (plenty of them in Cambridge, lol) amongst us;

but what date is it
Thanks for that though, fill me in on any other free/low cost things, I have a "shadow" staying with me for 2 days next week (a 6th former coming as part of an access scheme to see what uni is like) and I need some interesting cheap-or-free things to take her to - ones that are walkable from the city centre.
I have a couple of ideas but I'd like to be able to offer her a choice.
The dates are 17th and 18th Feb.0 -

At least Cambridge has a big Wetherspoons pub, the Regal is great as you can get brilliant deals on drinks and good value meal deals too.
I can only echo what the others said, Cambridge really is an expensive place to live with few bargains in general. I was a student there for 3 years and struggled for cash.

Here's a Cambridge Grabbit - Boden are having a clearance sale of men's women's and children's clothing in the Cambridge Guildhall - 2nd and last day is tomorrow 10-4 (but they start packing up at 3). Prices 10-50 pounds approx (roughly a third to a quarter of original prices) and there may well be further reductions by midday tomorrow.0

How do you find out what sales are going to be on in the Guildhall?0
