Baby sister has just bought a new laptop. She wants to set up a small home network - desktop - laptop; that will be about it. So I need a wireless router.
Any suggestions about best buys and best prices.
Many thanks
Kevin

We need to know whether she uses cable broadband or ADSL.
I'd avoid Belkin, they are often very problematic.
Linksys and Netgear are good. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
She uses ADSL broadband. Can't get cable in this area0

In that case have a look at the one in PCW as linked to0

I use D-link, stable and rock-solid. Have myself the D-link g604t, no glitches, and no funny issues.0

I use Safecom. Cheap on ebuyer (now with cashback through Quidco) and has a User support forum. The only thing is that the Safecom USB wlan adapter isn't v. good. So it depends if the laptop already has a wlan adapter.0

Decided to go for the LINKSYS WGKPC354G at PC World. I suppose at £40 plus a few pound for petrol its got to be hard to beat.
Many thanks to all who replied

I had a quick look at the specifications page at the PC World site for the LINKSYS router. Wish I'd known about that earlier (I already have a wireless router on order).
Should we be worried when it says:
Windows SE Compatible No
Windows 2000 Compatible Yes
Windows ME Compatible No
Windows XP Compatible No
MAC OS10 or Higher Compatible No
It doesn't make sense to me to manufacture a router/PCMCIA card that's only compatible with one operating system, so I'm guessing it must be a mistake or something...?"...And I gave that man directions, even though I didn't know the way, 'cause that's the kind of guy I am this week." -- Homer Simpson0
