You should be OK, the university is out and the football club won't be playing."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Thanks we live in Southport so dont know the area at all.0

Are you going down on the day?
Allow yourselves at least five hours and more likely six. Hold ups on the M6, M40 and M3 are common.0 -
No were going down the day before and coming back day after . My guess was about 5 hours but with 4 year old and pregnant wife toilet stops it will take longer.0

On nice days, particularly warm days especially at weekends Gunwharf gets extremely busy and it's probable you'll need to queue for a short time. Parking there is not cheap either as it's a captive audience with few options nearby aprat from metered on street parking.

A couple of weekends ago there were slight delays on the ferries to the Isle of Wight. The whole area around Portsea was gridlocked for hours, as the road to the ferries is adjacent to Gunwharf.
On a sunny summer day it can get very busy and as Househuntr says it isn't cheap. My daughter is a manager at one of the restuarants and she usually gets me to drop her off and then pick her up after her shift(not particularly relaxing when some shifts end at 1am...:rotfl:) She does occasionally get a better deal on parking, but not at peak times..BH etc)
Where are you staying when you are down here? Don't go into exact details of where/when you are staying but minor details. Hotel/B&B in the City or on the outskirts. Post back or pm and I will look at a few possibilities.0 -
Where are you staying the night before?. HMS Warrior is well served by public transport, most buses terminate at the Hard Interchange, which is next to Portsmouth Harbour train station both a short stroll from the Warrior.
Gunwharf car park is the nicest around that area, it's underground but very well lit and feels very safe, tariff HERE. It does get pretty busy there especially on a nice summers day, there are alternative car parks in the area, details HERE. Street parking is pretty much residents only around the area and the traffic wardens are very active, 24/7.
HMS Warrior is a lovely setting, so hope the sun is shining and you have a great time.0 -
Gun Wharf is a new development and is pretty posh full of high end shops and very expensive parking.
If your going to be parked up there for any length of time (ie more than a few hours ) you may want to consider alternatives. Previous ones have been very sensible but I am going to be a bit more clarkeson and give you some radical alternative.
Get the boat - Oh yes - Park up in Gosport and get the ferry across to gunwharf - takes about 10 minutes and turn up in style. Downside - Gosport is a bit of a hole and I wouldnt leave my wife there overnight let alone my car.
Get the train - Yes Gunwharf is served by its own train station - you can park up anywhere between SOuthampton and porsmouth and not worry about the traffic.
Portsmouth is effectively an island (makes it easier to avoid outsiders stopping the decades of inbreeding). Downside - well its a train.
Suggestion 3 - Park for FREE in Southsea (most of the roads OFF the seafront are FREE with no restrictions (try waverley road) and get one of Portsmouths finest taxi drivers from Aquacars to drop you a miles down the road at gunwharf. Or walk along the seafront. Its only a mile and you can play a quick game of spot the person without the beer belly and tattoos. When you have found that lady you can do the advanced version and try it with the menfolk. Tricky to tell the difference but the men tend to be holding the bull terriers while the ladyfolk have a crate of stella under each arm.0 -
ukjoel,
I will ignore the inbreeding comment as I wasn't born here.
But I WILL draw the line at you saying finest taxi drivers and Aquacars in the same website, let alone the same thread:mad:0
