Faster Payment not received by the recipient

I transfered £600.00 from by Halifax a/c to the recipient's Barclays a/c on the 9-June-2010. Halifax immediately confirmed that the money will be available in the recipient's a/c in 2 hours.

But the recipient is saying they did not received the money yet (as of 14-June-2010 - after 3 working days)

Please anyone advice me.

Obvious question really, have you double checked the account details with the recipient?
  • Of course yes, I have double checked the a/c number and the s/c of the recipient.

What do Halifax say? They should be able to tell that the transaction has completed.

I did not contact Halifax because Halifax immediately send me a conformation message as follows and debited the amount from my account:

"Your Faster Payment was successful and has arrived at the recipient's bank who will apply the funds to the account within 2 hours"

Are there any reasons for the recipient's bank (Barclays) to hold the money without crediting to the recipient's a/c?

(After I read your reply I am thinking of calling Halifax now)
  • Have never known this to happen.

I've seen the opposite, though - the screen telling you the payment failed, when in fact it succeeded :(

You'll have to ring your bank, and a two pronged attack (get the recipient to ring theirs) is worthwhile.

If there was a problem, the payment could have bounced back and be sitting at the halifax somewhere. Do you trust the recipient? Either way your best bet is to be pushing the halifax hard to sort it.
  • I rang Halifax they said the money reached the destination on the same day (9-June-2010) of payment.

If you ask me whether I can trust the recipient, (and if you expect a one word answer) my answer is "no".

Please advice me how can I handle this issue.
  • That's a more difficult one.... :)

What you want is some kind of reference number or "proof", like a recorded delivery slip.

Can your bank supply anything like that? You might need to ring the bank again and explain this dilemma to see if there's any assistance they can provide in that respect.
  • As this is an online transfer (faster payment), the only "proof" that I have at the moment is the confirmation email sent me by my bank, which I have already forwarded to my recipient.

I hope my bank should issue me a proper payment confirmation document upon request.

I'm not sure what to advise now, whenever I have made these payments my Bank statement can be used to confirm that the payment has been made. I suspect it is now for the recipient to start chasing their bank. In my experience Barclays have always bee efficient in this regard.
