I'm posting this on behalf of my Son as his computer won't let him register to this site or any others to sign in.
He can get onto any website that does not require a log in but not Facebook, email etc.
He has an Acer Veriton, running Internet Explorer 8. Cookies are active Security settings are at medium.
A Pop up has mentioned that there are no active add ons but he does know enough about how to activate or update them.
Can this be causing his problems? If not any ideas please. The computer has been restored back to a time before this issue arose.

I have no idea what is could be so should we rule of malware etc. and see what's running on the computer while someone else comes up with something? Instructions are for infections (written by alienRIK):
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ma..._anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/2894/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)0 -

Are cookies being blocked by the anti virus? Try temporarily disabling and log on to a site.0

Update
He has now found he can get into HTTP but not HTTPS sites. He has tried cookies on and off, turned firewall on and off, set privacy to medium and tried variations. cleared SSL state under certificate. In advanced internet options SSL2.0 and SSL 3.0 are ticked.
Any further ideas?
He advised this started 5 days ago after running Avg and ad adware and removing cookies.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
Can't get in how? What happens when he tries?
Could you ask him to go here: https://www.fortify.net/sslcheck.html and tell us what it says please. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
