I think I've been sold a fake Kilpling bag :-(

Hi
Can anyone advise me who I should contact first about a bag which I believe to be fake? It is supposedly a Kipling bag but, have owned a few already, I am suspicious about the quality of it. It is heavy fabric (Kipling use very light fabric), stitching is not very neat in places, lining in poor quality, badge is stuck on (badly) rather than sewn on, and the monkey key ring looks cheap and tatty. It was listed for £2 less than the Kipling retail price so this didn't raise any alarm bells.
I bought this at the end of May, paid by PayPal straight away, and received it today (after chasing up the seller). Do I get in touch with the seller, or trading standards, or ebay or PayPal first? Do I need to get someone to verify it is a fake and, if so, how should I go about this? What are the time limits for all of this?
I've had a look on the ebay help and am none-the-wiser so any advice anyone can give would be gratefully received!

Does it say 'Kilpling' on the bag itself?0

To win a paypal dispute you need to have written evidence on headed notepaper from a manufacturer, distributor or shop that its fake. Paypal only give you 10 days to do this so get that evidence before opening any dispute.
In the meantime contact the seller ans state your concerns there is a chance they may refund you anyway.0 -
Hi thanks for the replies so far.
Zazan999 - yes it does have Kipling printed on the side, just like the real Kipling one
Cyberbob - I will contact the seller but wasn't sure at what stage to do this. Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought I had to contact trading standards as it is against ebay's policies to sell fake goods...in which case I presume I'll have to hang on to the item for them???0 -
Don't forget about the time limit for Paypal claim, I think it is 45 days, so a while yet but worth remembering! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Zazan999 - no, that's my fat fingers!! Just too eager to post and start sorting this out as I know that anything involving PayPal and ebay has fixed timescales, and judging by the communication I've already had with the seller, I'm not expecting much in the way of co-operation from them...0

It is against ebay policies to sell fake goods, but you will need to get it verified by a genuine bag seller (i.e. written proof on headed note paper), some of which are not too keen to do so given you chose to order online from an unverified seller... You may need to promise to buy a bag from them instead!
You need to get written proof FIRST to satisfy ebay. You usually get to destroy it (or give to trading standards) rather than send it back.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
You need to lodge the claim with PP within 45 days of purchase, but then prove the fake within 10. So make sure you clock is ticking in your direction :-)0

Hi, what a shame - Kipling bags a really great. Is there a Kipling shop or Outlet near you - they might put your mind at ease and write you a letter if it is fake. Hope you get it sorted. x0
