HELP .... I live in a flat above a shop and share my water supply with them. The shop is on a water meter and their account is in arrears . Their water was cut off last weekend and again this weekend (they must have payed enough to have it connected again) This leaves me with no water over the weekend. The First weekend United Utilities admitted they turned the water off and offered me compensation but this weekend they said they did not turn it off. What can l do about this as l cannot carry on with no water at the weekend.

Who do you pay for your own water supply? If you have your own account with United Utilities they need to be made aware that if you are not in arrears then they are not allowed to disconnect your supply.

They can not disconnect a domestic supply..end of, arrears or not.
I am then thinking they do not know there is a domestic supply and if it is a joint supply then why would they ?
I can not believe they would disconnect once they knew as it would be illegal. So I am guessing they disconnected once and then found out so if you are on a joint supply it is more likely that the shop owner / landlord has turned it off to save money.
Check http://www.voa.gov.uk/council_tax/ and see if it has your flat listed on the council tax section of it the whole building is listed on the commercial part.
If though UU turned your water off once and have offered compo then the fact it went off again is more then likely nothing to do with them and you need to speak to your landlord as it would seem they are at fault and not your supplier

It sounds as if you have a "mixed use" water supply, which the water company should not disconnect, although this doesn't seem to have been proven in law

Could you ask United Utilities to install a separate domestic metered supply given the nature of the payment problems with the non-domestic customer? South Staffordshire Water mention this in their documents and perhaps United Utilities have something similar.0
