Unwanted telephone calls driving me mad - not sales so TPS does not help...

Another vote here for Truecall.
We get about 2 calls a day from marketing/research etc. Now I can handle them, but I live with my 84 year old Mother and I do not like her having to deal with them when I'm out.
So I got Truecall and I can block 500 numbers, block people who with-hold their number, but people I want to get through to her I can put on the star list.
This is a great piece of equipment and I highly recommend it. It's really easy to set up as well.

My parents are getting silent calls even during the night. They have caller display but no number is displayed when they receive these calls. Can anyone tell me how they can stop these calls? They have registered in the past with TPS to stop these kind of calls - it did stop the marketing calls but now they are getting these ones instead.0

Contact BT and ask them to put a trace on the line. They will give you a number which you dial after you hang up on one of these calls. BT will then be able to trace the number and will get in contact with whoever it is making them.
This probably won't work if it's from overseas, but BT might have some other suggestions if that's the case.0 -
Do what i did 2 years ago, contact the nuisance call bureau (I can't remember their contact number offhand but i will trace it up for you if want),also keep a record of the date & times of these calls for a week at least so that they can trace these calls (believe me they do) and take action against these culprits. Also contact your phone provider tell them what's happening, and also the police to obtain a case ref number for criminal prosecution purposes if needed by the nuisance call bureau. hope this helps.0

I get plagued with calls asking for the person who had the landline number before me (not at my address though).
I'm so tired of explaining they don't live here, no I don't know where the moved to as the didn't ever live here, etc etc
My very first call when I moved in was for "Mr McEwan" and 2 years on I still get calls for him!
The main problem is I get the feeling they are all chasing him for money so I don't know how to get my number off their databases as for "data protection" they are not allowed to tell me who is calling for him!
Might be a bit of a pain but I reckon the only way around this one would be to change the telephone number. Would hate the thought of telling everyone of the number change though.0 -
As far as I know TPS only stops sales calls originating from within the UK - I work from home and am being pestered by calls but the display on my phone says 'outside area' which seems to indicate that they're coming from call centres in Asia, India etc - often the callers have foreign accents.
I've started ignoring any calls that have this message on the phone display - but have to admit they aren't reducing in number, and its irritating having the home phone ringing in the background when I'm trying to work! I'm considering installing an answering machine - however my mum is elderly and I need to be contactable by her..... same problem a lot of others have.
Good luck - today I had an oriental gentleman asking if anyone in our house had had an accident recently, I had Legal and General asking me about the cost of life cover (and adamant it wasn't a sales call....), I had three that I didn't answer at all and another where I answered and it just went silent as often happens with call centres.0
