Unwanted telephone calls driving me mad - not sales so TPS does not help...

Does anyone have any idea how to get market research companies to stop ringing you?

I am being tormented, its happening every day now, sometimes more than once, I am at the point where I get more calls on my landline from market research companies than from people I want to hear from.

I have asked to be taken off their list of telephone numbers, asked them not to ring again, but still they keep coming. I have tried hanging up as soon as they announce who they are. I have tried asking to speak to the manager, because I have already asked them not to ring, but they never let me. Worst offenders are 'Lifestyle market research', whoever they are, and IPSOS/Mori.

Does anyone have any ideas? I am registered with TPS so mostly can avoid sales calls, but apparently it doesn't cover market research.

I was getting tormented just before my wee 'un was born whilst on maternity leave. I didn't appreciate getting called at all hours of the day so I registered with TPS. It's not foolproof but it's stopped the vast majority of them.

The only thing I could suggest would be to pretend that English isn't your first language or simply set the phone down and let them stay on the line getting nowhere. Either that or do like the TV advert did and set the phone down beside a musical toy then make yourself a cup of tea!

Did you sign up with survey sites? Ipsos is one of the paid survey sites, it may simply be a case of logging on and changing your preferences?

No, have never signed on with survey sites, and I always tick the 'no contact' and 'don't pass my details to other companies' boxes on absolutely everything.

TPS doesn't help at all, I have been registered with it for years, and it definitely stops sales calls, but it says on their website that they don't stop market research calls.

It really is getting me down, its endless, I feel like I have no peace in my own home. I have never once even answered one of their surveys, I always either hang up, say no thanks, or more recently I have taken to begging them to stop calling me, so you would think they would decide it wasn't worth their time ringing, but they will ring several times in one day, its torture.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I have no problem getting rid of them, I just hang up, but I want to stop them ringing in the first place!

on saturday afternoon we got one of the many many call centre calls we get and unfortunately my husband answered. The call was someone asking us if we wanted to do something about unwanted calls. the irony was completely lost on the other end of the phone and my husband who is normally ok with them, he understands that its someones job went beserk at them. it ended with "NO NO ARE YOU THICK OR DEAF THIS IS AN UNWANTED CALL!!! CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT???"

i have to answer my house phone in case its my aunt ringing she doesn't believe in mobiles and is in bad health but its ALWAYS sales or market research calls. Im nice to them until they start asking for personal details like one who asked me who my mortgage is with how much is it for.

my sister normally is nice then hangs up but said to one "im not interested in sales calls" and was given the angry reply of "this is not a sales call its a SAVINGS call". I understand that it just someone on the other end trying to earn a living but they get very rude and pushy.

you could purchase True Call device for about £80. was featured on BBC's Dragon's Den

you could complain to your telephone provider, I complained to BT about a company (luckily the company number appeared in my caller display) and the calls have stopped.

I find keeping a ref's whistle by the phone helps a lot amazing how quick you get taken off their lists.

    Cheers, Des.

is it worth getting an ansafone, with the out message made to sound like a fax tone? peple you know will wait for the beep (or do a code,whatever..)

sales bods will get tired and give up.

oh, and like the whistle idea too. though the caller may sue, if hearing damaged..?

    shame. hehe
