    Hiya thanks
well Ive fiddled about and although slow and flashing I have managed to get a connection finger crossed, the lady today done all the line connections and said was nothing wrong and she thinks its in house,
Stephanie if you want to have a look you can let me know what i need to send you , Im going to tell BT tomorrow about the slowless as speed tests are still under 1mb , and also ask for a new hub if they will give us one is another matter but fingers crossed, ours is version 1.0 has since we set up years and years ago so bit outdated I think.
All we want is a broadband that connects works and offers a reasonable speed not a miracle lol
failing that Sky is our next port of call
    Thanks
( now to see if this posts or throws me off ;) )

    thanks again
    helen

Did BT go through all the proper tests with (plugging in to your master socket, changing filters etc)?
You are aware that if BT come out and the fault is with your equipment or the wiring on your side of the master socket (i.e. all extension wiring) then you will be charged a minimum £125 call out fee?

Hiya well BT have been , not been charged , they had to rewire the house as was wired wrongly (star wiring or something)
Broadband is now running at 6 -10MB which we are more than happy with. Wireless we can pick up downstairs and even outside
So fingers crossed stays that way. Home hub will need replacing so he ssaid just ring up and ask for new one.
    Thanks Helen x

Did he tell you what the charge was? Your extension wiring is not part of BT's network and they charge very high rates for wiring extensions beyond the master socket.

The BT bloke must have been a relative of Harry Potter if just rewiring the extensions not only allows a 63dB attenuation line to run at 10Mbps but also fixed the WifFi.

What are the stats now? If less than 63dB there must have been a nail through an extension somewhere

Hiya he said there was no charge when we asked and we never paid him anything.
he said it was the box above the front door that had the wires leading to the sockets all mixed up and the star wiring was at fault.
Hes wired it all up into main socket in the bedroom and disconnected the ones we dont need .
new stats are as follows, but the wireless is back on at a long range which keeps kids happy for ipods

    DSL Connection

There must have been a short cicuit on the wiring because there is no way you can go from 63dB atternuation to 6dB (which indicates you must be more or less next to the exchange). I've no idea why your WiFi would have improved too (apart from the speeds obviously).

If you moved to an ISP offering ADSL2+ you would easily get the maximum speed (20 - 24Mbps depending if they wee capping the maximum).
