we are seriously thinking of changing supplier but need help, i dont know where to start or whos best, we are a family of 7 and the internet does get used quite a bit .

Firstly - BT are not the best of ISPs.
That said you may not get faster if you have a long phone line. In addition WiFi issues are beyond their control.
To get any sensible responses you need to post up your router stats and check what LLU options are available on your exchange....

Ive no idea what they mean if honest
thanks
Broadband connection details:
Downstream 928 Kbps
Upstream 384 Kbps
Connection time 0 days, 5:19:03
Data transmitted 11.63 MB
Data received 39.72 MB

Hi there isn't enough information there other than to show your speed is sub 1Mbps. Somewhere the stats should show your line attenuation and the noise margin. Without those figures the sync means very little.0

ok thanks were do I fin the other information?
I done as suggested and all came up was the above?

You are on a long line (your line attenuation is an indication of this at 63 dB) and your noise margin is good so it does look like you're getting all that your line can support with BT broadband.
Have you tried changing the wireless channel to see if it helps improve the wireless range? If other electrical equipment is fairly near the router it could be causing interference (e.g. halogen lights, microwaves, DVD players, etc).
The instructions on how to change a wireless channel will depend on the model of the router, let us know which one you're using.
Thanks,

If you want to check on what other WiFi networks there are which may be interfering with you try using http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider
Back on ADSL though - as the BT rep said you are on a long line so your speed is never going to be brilliant. What the BT rep didn't point out though is that you posted up stats from a sub 1Mbps sync and then the latest showing 2Mbps. The BT DLM will give you worse results from this rather poor performance than an LLU provider because of their complex and annoying Dynamic Line Management (DLM) routines. Firstly you maximum throughput is set with a rather high granularity so the first sync would result in maximum throughput of 0.75Mbps. The second higher sync could give you 1.75Mbps were it not for the second annoyance - your IPprofile will not rise to give that rate until you have been on it for some considerable time.
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm
With an LLU supplier you potentially get the maximum your sync will support (84% of it after overheads) immediately.
Give that link to SamKnows a try and see who else you can get. Even if it is only BT IPstream there are plenty of better ISPs than BT themselves.0 -
hiya thanks sorry not been about but my internet has gone off alltogether now no internet light or broadband light, we never touched the wires normally it flickers and comes on but its not even doing that, Bt are coming out tomorrow morning as when i rung she said could be out first thing 8am - 1pm so least thats good fact they coming so soon.
She said may need a new router as ours is old white 0.1 version about 4/5yrs old at a guess , also we pay for the service with internet phone and our phone was lost 2yrs ago in a house move which we never got replaced as didnt think we could so wit n see what they say, still not convinced though if BT are the best like you say.
sorry i dont know what a LLU is or anything so il keep you posted when can get online again as in mums on her pc ( had to order a tv for my sons birthday, so snuck on here lol)
thanks again

Here are some rankings from another site - http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php
To be fair a lot of the users on that site are/were customers of Entanet resellers which skews the results a little.0
