Mobile Phone Warranties and repairs

Hello everyone,
In December i bought a reasonably priced LG pay as you go mobile for my Mum to use.
It worked well until last week when the message "No network" was displayed on the screen. I could not clear it.
I took the phone back to the T-Mobile shop where i had bought it and he tried to fix the problem too. He could not and said that the phone was broken and would have to be sent off to LG for repair. That would take 2.5 weeks!!!
They were still selling the phone for i think under £25.
Am i right in thinking that they should just replace the phone immediately under the warranty or are they correct in having to send it to LG for repair? It sounds like a great deal of trouble for such a cheap phone. Surely they should just give me a new one!

I believe they're within their rights to send it away for repair. I think it's if you've had it for less than a month then it would be replaced but after this length of time a repair is attempted. Could you ask the manager nicely if they could supply a loan phone in the meantime at least whilst it's away?0
